Well they seem to be battling hard to for the crown of slowest updates with Motorola. As a frustrated Atrix owner that was promised 2.3 at the same time as the US got it in May we found ourselves now in November with still no UK release despite the rest of the universe having got 2.3 for Atrix already!!
Locked into phone contracts for 2 years, these companies need to learn that one of the biggest factors for future mobile choices are going to be who is seen to take care of their customers after they have purchased a phone the best and LG and Moto need to get their act together.
LG are crap when it comes to mobile support & updates but then the whole Android ecosphere is fairly bad regarding OS update support; see below
The Understatement.Com - Android Orphans:Visualizing a sad history of support
Hmmm, better stick my 2X on the wifi and see what it finds, I guess...
EDIT: so far, it finds nothing...
I think its still early days with android. I've seen slow updates with Sony Ericsson and my X10 but recently they've got a lot better. I think its taken/taking a while for the mobile manufactures to realise that poor support resulted in poor sales. I think its also been a difficult shift for them as I know for example SE liked to customize android heavily but now they taken onboard that having just light weight changes are better as they can quickly roll out newer releases with fair less work.
I think ICS (4.0) and newer handsets will start to herald the end of the slow update. I also think the worst manufactures like LG will either improve quickly or just drop out.
That survey is the subject of a reader's survey at TuxRadar http://www.tuxradar.com/content/open...tation-problem. I'd heard LG were pretty poor (Motorola too - although I'd assume that their new masters at Google will make sure that they're a bit more proactive).
Poor old Sony (Ericsson) had a dire reputation for this as well - but it would appear that customer pressure has forced a rethink, and lately they've been appearing to be bullish about keeping their models up to date. Hopefully LG will look around, wake up, and "smell the coffee" and get their update programme running a good deal faster. Otherwise, I suggest they're going to have a real issue selling their high-end models, especially against the other vendors that do follow the "regular update" mantra.
LG have also said that ICS is coming to the o2x, they really dont know.
If im honest im not fussed, cyanogen has had GB for AGES and it works flawlessly now and it will most likely have ICS out in a month or so....
guess atleast LG delivered on their promise but it took them to long.
Must add now LG have came up with an official response:
[LG Official Statements on Ice Cream Sandwich OS Update]
LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.
Thank you very much.

Anyone still got their o2x on stock rom and trying to get the update? When I was connecting from work I just kept getting "no update available", now I'm trying from home I'm getting "Connection failed"
Might finally be time for a custom rom - I've given the stock one fair chance, I think...
EDIT: just rebooted my phone and am now back to getting "current version is the latest one". Sick of the flaky nature of this phone. Can't decide whether to take it back to CW for something more reliable, or got a custom ROM on there and see if the problems really are all software-based... *sigh*

This is a bit odd, unless I missed something, I updated my original Optimus One through the LG update software in the UK to version 2.3.3, is that the version we are talking about here?
