How long before someone comes out with a story that "NFC-equipped phone's security broken - consumers 'mugged' without even realising!"
</cynic-mode>
NFC for small value payments sounds great to me, e.g. being able to just swipe your phone to buy a magazine at a railway station, but I'd like to see a bit more security. E.g. PIN's required for payments over a certain value, limits on the number of small transactions you can carry out in a certain period, extra security measures needed if you want to use NFC payment abroad, etc.
That said, I'm slotting NFC capability on my "would like to have" list for a replacement phone next year.
O2 and Three seem conspicuous by their absence.
Mcdonalds support NFC now... noticed the mcdonalds opposite me has a big sign saying it now supports it.
my phone doesnt have it though and i cant see myself bothering with this tech for awhile as one its another huge security issue and 2 id rather pay by cash on small purchase :P.
You're right - O2 is Telefonica, according to their website:
Couldn't see Three, nor the parent - Hutchinson Telecom - maybe the cartel tried to phone them but Three aren't picking up nor listening to their answerphone?!Quote:
Welcome to O2. We provide mobile, fixed and broadband services in UK, Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Together, we're Telefonica Europe, but customers know us as O2
:stupid:
If Three aren't doing this (and I can't see a reason for them not to) then it's going to reflect pretty badly on them.
Oh, my local Greggs are also doing NFC payments as is MacD's - more likely to use it in Greggs though. ;)
