    with an aluminium metal case.
Finally. Whoever came up with a glass case should be shot.

The iPad 3 is rumoured to be 0.7mm thicker than its predecessor so it can incorporate the new 2,048 x 1,536 screen, which is twice as potent as the iPad 2
    Four times as potent, actually

Guys come on, its an LG Optimus 2x.... change the resolution and you have o2x, the o2x has the same size screen so really it brings it up to that level .

Re: News - iPhone 5 getting a larger 4 inch screen?

Both the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 are likely to make an early appearance at the Mobile World Congress in February, where a host of other tablet makers, including HTC’s quad-core Android device, will be hoping to impress.
Sounds like visitors to MWC2012 are going to get blown away with the sheer range of excellent devices on offer - I'll be looking forward to any Hexus coverage.

One thing about this race to bigger and bigger screens - at what point is someone going to say "stop -this is too big!" ? I had a quick shot of a Galaxy S2 demo device and to be frank I don't think I'd want something much larger - although the clarity of that screen was great. Actually, I think anything larger than 4.5" is going to be too large for a lot of folks, and surely the closer you get to 5", the less like a phone and more like a tablet a device becomes?

Nice to see Sony's doing the iPad3 screens - should be good. Still won't buy one though.

Re: News - iPhone 5 getting a larger 4 inch screen?

I know Apple are getting a hard time for still just having a 3.5" screen, and yes I agree that they should have moved to a 4" screen by now, but taking it much further could really be a bad idea. I think 4" is the sweet spot for a lot of people these days.

Apple have a careful balancing act to perform, if a customer really doesn't want a 4.5"+ superphone but that is what the iPhone 5 has, they will loose that customer to another platform. If a customer doesn't want a Gallaxy Nexus because of the size, they may well just get a SII instead. Because there is a huge choice in Android handsets. There isn't with the iPhone.

Re: News - iPhone 5 getting a larger 4 inch screen?

i wouldn't really want a bigger handset than the iphone 4. if they made the screen the whole size of the front that's fine, but not increasing the physical size of the unit as they have a great size right now that's nice and slim and neat. other phones look a bit too big and 90s looking to me, more like PDA's of old. why do people really want a bigger screen on a phone? aren't tablets for when a phone isn't big enough?

Re: News - iPhone 5 getting a larger 4 inch screen?

There's a balance to be hit between screen size, resolution and device size. I've moved up to an o2x recently and tbh I don't really notice the screen size difference (3.2" -> 4.0") as much as the resolution difference (320x480 -> 480x800). I think much bigger than 4" is heading towards tablet sized and ergonomically it's going to stop working for a lot of people (I have big hands though, so a bigger hadnset is fine by me!).

At 4" the o2x still fits in any pocket I'd want to put it in with some room to spare, so I could definitely go to a slightly larger phone and still be comfortable with it, and I think the inflection point will be when the device won't fit in a trouser or jacket pocket any more: a phone has to be a take-everywhere device, and if you can't just stick it in your pocket it stops being that. So I reckon phones will probably stop at around 5", and we'll still see a lot of 3.5" devices on the market for people who want that smaller handset for either ergonomic reasons or because people don't want to spoil the lines of a designer suit! And of course, if the iPhone ever moves up to a 4.5" screen, it opens a new market for an iPhone mini with a 3.5" screen....

Yes it might have a 4" screen but how big will the rest fo the phone be, my DHD isnt that much bigger than the 4/4s but the screen is half an inch bigger, if the 5 has a 4" screen how muich bigger will it be, and how much finger in ears laa laa'ing will all the fan boys that said the bigger screen was too big do? lol

4" is definitely the perfect size for anyone with above average handsize. I love my SGS II

Re: News - iPhone 5 getting a larger 4 inch screen?

Mad thought maybe - but what about a dual screen phone - a la Sony P series tablet? Preferably one with a mount like my Canon camera or perhaps a variant of the Dell Inspiron Duo, so you could rotate/flip the screen around from "normal" to "dual screen" mode.

So normally you have standard 4" form factor phone - albeit one that's a good deal thicker than the razor blades that designers seem to be trending towards. Then when you need the extra "real estate" you open the clamshell up, flip the normal screen around and there's your 2x4" screens.

Of course this'd play merry hell with battery life, so of course only one screen is active in normal mode.

Don't think I necessarily want, or need, that amount of screen size, but I thought I'd suggest it as a possible way to have more screen whilst retaining "pocketability".

Re: News - iPhone 5 getting a larger 4 inch screen?

Provided the phone doesn't increase much in size, and they go with an aluminium casing, I'll be upgrading from the 4S to the 5.

I didn't regret going from the 4 to the 4S so I don't think I'd regret going up another level either.
