News - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 448: Launch-day pricing and availability

NVIDIA's latest is almost as fast as a GTX 570, but is it any cheaper?

sigh, i have been an nividia diehard for the longest time, this release is such pure bs I am for once considering giving ati another chance. The biggest insult is that 570 prices seem to be shifting upward....wth?? 'tough to recommend' yeah just a bit, maybe hexus needs to edit its bang4buck rating to reflect what a joke the pricing is.
and all this just before new cards from amd....sigh

Sounds like nvidia really need to get out in front of this and explain what's going on with the pricing, because at the moment it just looks to me (and no doubt others) like retailers are artificially pushing up the price of the 570 to allow them to charge more for this card. Whether that's actually what's happening or not, people are cyncial and that's what they will assume - and that would be a major PR fail for nvidia.

So I bought my GTX570 on the forums for £195 back around July time, seems it was a good bet!

Re: News - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 448: Launch-day pricing and availability

I think its a case of both nVidia and AMD prices going up as the new generation looms and volume decreases without an available replacement.

For nVidia that's meant to be Q2 2012 but they probably feel comfortable keeping their prices in-line with AMD whose serious cards (78XX and 79XX) probably won't be in stock until mid-January (I'm guessing, don't quote me on it). Although this new 560Ti is out and there was recently a new version of 6950 released, it seems a bit late in the day and is probably seen as a way of taking advtange of a situation where people either don't know there's a generation change on the way or need a high-end card now without spending much more than £230.

That said, is that how this tends to go as one generation of cards is replaced by another? Wouldn't have expected it between the 5 and 6 series AMD cards but was it around the time of 5 series being released?
