Sounds about right really. Nintendo specs have been equivalent of competitors last gen systems and then this would be about right. I think this will work well for Nintendo again. By using cheaper spec systems they can keep making money while providing some interesting game play. Having owned both a PS3 and an xbox 360 I think for next gen I'm just getting a Nintendo...

im already playing next gen games > PC hehe

Agreed. Considering the Xbox 360 debuted in 2005 with (what sounds like) a similar processor on the 90nm process then assuming this'll be on 32nm it'll probably be pretty cheap anyway. Could be another relatively low priced console from Nintendo though it's the cost of additional controllers that's worrying me...

Yup, sounds like N want to make money from the console again.
Nice to see a different take on the modern console market but I do wonder how many will buy it after the Wii-fad.

The wii is a crap console with some great games. Proving that people tend to want good games instead of amazing graphics.
If good games are a fad, it's time to give up gaming.
Re: News - Leaked Wii U specification includes quad-core 3GHz CPU
I was referring to how many purchased them and then let them collect dust/sell them on pretty fast.
I do not know a single person who purchased one and is still using it.
Re: News - Leaked Wii U specification includes quad-core 3GHz CPU
Mine only gets dusted off at Christmas... infact i think i will do that next week :D.
Its ok spec but why do they always seem to go for a low end setup, it must be an AMD chip as its built on 45nm which i presume means a P2 type chip? Why not just get a new BD setup or simply get Intels equivalent of an i5 2500 as it decimates anything... and combine it with a 6770/6850 or something, and i hope for the love of god they dont just stick 512MB of ddr2/3 ram because its stupid, the pricing is so low they may as well do 2Gb at least.
Regardless of the above though its nice to see Nintendo sticking to what seems to be an extremely profitable setup, the Wii sold crap loads and even ignoring the fact sales have dwindled it means nothing as the majority of the consoles were sold at a profit of ~$30-$40 each! Which is insane so without software they were making a bucket load.

Erm..

Not AMD for the CPU supposedly, just the graphics.

Yeah, same in the PC world - you can get fantastically powerful PCs for relative peanuts, if you don't mind being behind the curve. Being ahead of the curve might be a selling point, but Nintendo use gameplay instead I guess.
Mind you, I'm so behind on consoles I'm still using a gamecube - might upgrade to a Wii when the U comes out :p
Re: News - Leaked Wii U specification includes quad-core 3GHz CPU
Oh dear, thanks for pointing that out i wrote it in a rush :P. I dont know why i read it as a 45nm tri core O.o! That is an interesting one then i wonder who is making the chip.
Youd think it would have been AMD for both since they could have probably scored a bit of a discount together but i guess we shall see. Agreed with the components being cheap as chips if you can wait :), i unfortunately never wait and my 460 is going well and was a stop gap until the next gen this year so i will be a poor person then :D.
edit: Possibly made by IBM?

Seems to be a tech regarding the ram onboard with cpu... interesting indeed!

PowerPC chips are made by IBM.

Yeah I wondered if llano or trinity might get a few design wins, possibly too late for wii, but we'll (ha) see what happens with the next Xbox..
Re: News - Leaked Wii U specification includes quad-core 3GHz CPU
Yeah i realised that just now, well it will be interesting to see how well it performs :). Haha, pun oh dear its a bad day i really chuckled :P.
Re: News - Leaked Wii U specification includes quad-core 3GHz CPU
Bah, upgrade to 1080p great (even if a necessity at this point) but using the old wiimote controllers is bad choice. I know they're ubiquitous but they are so shoddy and inaccurate, only seeeming to register overall swipes and not much more... one instance where I wouldn't mind being forced to upgrade.
Re: News - Leaked Wii U specification includes quad-core 3GHz CPU
I dont think hardcore gamers will switch to it, as gaming market in x360 and ps3 is so much better than Nintendo. Also, Releasing only 50% more powerful console from the console which were released 7 years before is really a joke at this stage with the wii u specs.
It will be a Fail IMO.

Motion plus works pretty damn well.

But how many games support it? I mean truly support it such that its improved accuracy is critical to playing the game? Not very many at all I imagine - I can't imagine a new zelda or mario game *requiring* the motion plus controller. That's one instance where a forced upgrade of controllers would be a good thing. You see MS has Kinect, which is innovative and Sony have Move or whatever which is at least accurate. Nintendo fall behind the drag curve if they don't improve in this area...
