Re: News - Tesco first supermarket to rollout free Wi-Fi

It's a bit odd to be limited to 15 minutes per day. Very few of us (I suspect) will be shopping there on a daily basis, and our visits will likely be longer than 15 minutes. If I am popping in for less than 15 minutes, i.e. to Tesco Metro, I doubt I'll need WiFi access.

Wouldn't 2 hours per week be more sensible?

I suppose it's handy if your checking if the latest film/game/[whatever] is cheaper elsewhere before you buy it.

Re: News - Tesco first supermarket to rollout free Wi-Fi

    Well, personally, I'm not interested.

It's not just that 15 minutes is, for me, far too restricted. It's that you need to have and provide details of a Clubcard to use it. So now, my net activity would be running through Tesco servers, and they know who I am? If I won't let Google have access to that and avoid Chrome because of it, then I sure as hell won't give it up to Tesco.

Besides, I don't have a Clubcard, and won't have one. Oh, and I don't use Tesco. Apart from that, it suits me down to the ground.

Suits me - enough for a quick message to the wife about anything I might have forgotten in the shopping list. (No, I don't use a phone for the most part)

Nor me. I've got one (or several, if you include ancient ones) but I can't find it. I had it a couple of weeks ago, but I've obviously put it somewhere "safe". Very safe.

Re: News - Tesco first supermarket to rollout free Wi-Fi

Surely it's worth using to browse Asda's website and *insert phone company here* website to skew their data hoarding?

I say that, I'd imagine a few people would maybe use the free wi-fi to check prices of other supermarkets relative to Tesco? Assuming certain websites aren't blocked of course.

I'd be more impressed if I could get a mobile phone signal in our local Tesco. You can't go shopping if you're expecting a call because it's totally dead.

Re: News - Tesco first supermarket to rollout free Wi-Fi

For price comparisons it seems OK and i think the time limit is a good amount of time as i am sure most people would not stand in Tesco for that long just to use the free WIFI, i think most people just pick the supermarket that is cheaper overall for them and do all their shopping their

Was going to post the same, although my call is usually to ask what was on the shopping list that ive left at home.

I think its meant for the 15 minutes you stop and have a cup of tea in the cafe....

But looking at the updated article, its 15 minutes for non-clubcard customers,
    club carders get unlimited(*) access.

(*) Yep, the old fair usage is there though

Re: News - Tesco first supermarket to rollout free Wi-Fi

Other than the obvious negative aspect of Tesco having all your shopping trend data, by having a clubcard, what other objections do people have?

Personally I dont see it as any worse than what google does, and most poeple use that.

    Just wondering.
