My SSD for hardware. I have picked up a i5 2500K and mobo and a 570gtx but they have yet to be unwrapped so can't comment on them.

Peripheral for the pc has to be my pair of Ultrasone 550's. Sound is gorgeous.

Damnit, forgot the kindle, such a good piece of kit...

tbh, i have been extremely fortunate in tech goodies this year, may that trend long continue

Probably my new system as a whole for hardware (2500k, Asus P8Z68-V/Gen3, 128GB Crucial M4/1TB WD Black, MSI 2GB 6950 TwinFrozrIII, 8GB Corsair Vengeance).

Gamewise: Battlefield 3 here as well, been playing fairly regularly now and still enjoying it, runs like a dream on the new system too.

Re: News - QOTW: your best technology purchase in 2011

I've got a brand new PC, and it's absolutely fantastic, but it hasn't exactly changed the way I do anything. I get it done a fair bit quicker, but it's still the same process.

On that basis, the purchase that has changed my life the most, the Kindle. I desperately wanted one for ages, and wasn't quite sure why, and now I have one, I know exactly why. It's brought back the joy of reading that I'd lost previously, and is just such a fantastically built and designed piece of kit.

For me personally it has been my SanFran/Wildfire S.

I'd never used email much before i had a "smartphone", but having my Live and Gmail accounts sent to me on the move has definitely changed the way i approach email now - both 'professionally' and for social/shop deals. Building on top of the phone itself, and while not wholly technical, GiffGaff's Goodybags have been a god send.

I may give the Kindle a look over as i really need to do more reading outside of pure Uni work if theres a chance it will re-ignite the interest.

I was going to say my Laptop (Toshiba R630, Core i3 2.27GHz, 8GB RAM). But then I relaised I bought it at the end of 2010 - Ahead of the curve, bitches!

So, this year, I guess it'd have to be my Zotac ZBOX ID-41. It replaced my ageing Shuttle SN21G5 and does a sterling job of Freeview HD in MythTV.

For me, it's my 27" Dell u2711 monitor, Bf3 is simply superb on a larger, high quality screen.

    Merry Christmas.

@Terbinator, you like GiffGaff? I find their website confusing. Am about to switch both my wife's and my phone to another network (from T-Mobile) and have been looking at these but am confused at the prices.

The website isn't the best, but for me the £10 GoodyBag (unlimited texts, data [sans tethering] and 250 mins) is perfect. That's before you get on to the community rewards and reasonable customer services from my dealings with them.

As with most others BF3 for game of the year and also my SSD, even though it's a relatively slow Kingston v100 it's so much faster than my standard hard drive!

I'd +1 on the speakers, my new Mordaunt Shorts are simply stunning. I have one other, a freebie off Freegle - a Zero DAC headphone amp. Niiiice.
    Cheers, David
