Pushing higher screen resolutions is definitely something LG needs to do, with it's adoption of passive 3d glasses tech this way they can increase the quality during 3D usage.

Can you imagine how crap a streamed video will look on a screen that size, even iPlayer (way better than ITV, 4OD, YouTube) will look horrid. HD streams are going to be little better... Worst showcase for "Smart TV" I can think of!

depends how good the scaling technology is and what source material they use to demonstrate it. Some youtube vids look ok in full 1080p.

Youtube vids posted IN 1080p would look alright on this display surely?

Streamed video has no HD future at the moment anyway until a radical change in broadband speeds AND rediculous usage limits comes about

I hope the next generation of consoles can output near 4K. It is nice having a big television with high resolution for family games.
Would cry is someone threw a Wii remote through the screen though.

Be-There.co.uk = No usage limits...and fast all the time.

Any 1080p image should look identical to how it would look on the same screen made at 1920x1080.....as each 1080p pixel would just be made into a block of 4 pixels.....effectively (kinda) giving you 1:1 (4:1) pixel mapping.

The problem is.....how does 1080p look blown up to 84"?

Does CES live stream onsite? Only electronics event I follow is E3.

Just changed to them. Much faster and better then my previous provider. I definitely recommend. Shame fibre is not in my area, they are trailing it. Might try line bonding for even more speed soon.

Not necessarily, i would expect the monitor to have enough intelligence to be able to interpolate to some degree. The quality of this and how much latency it would add is yet to be seen however i have seen some HDTVs which can do a pretty damn good job of scaling up high bitrate SD material which is roughly the same factor.
