Maybe I'm missing something, but what's wrong with rubber to fill the gaps, given that the construction materials (glass, plastic) are waterproof anyway?

wasnt this demoed about 4 or 5 years ago? It worked fine then but seems either they found faults or something has stopped them actually pushing it out in along time!.

Its a good idea but as someone mentioned, scratches could be a problem but i guess one way to do it is actually have it coated in this film internally, because remember you will remove the back panel (except iphone..) so you will break any type of seal if they did it externally, however heat dissipation could be an issue, maybe thats what they were working on for this length of time.

Interesting to see if it gets released as id happily pay <£50 to have a waterproof device, however i would first like to know the cons of this and time of wear etc.

My opinion too - add-on solutions (sprayed or otherwise) are no real substitute for good initial design, and I would have thought splash resistance would have done the job for the majority of phone users, (in case you get caught in the rain).

Plus - for some reason - I immediately thought of those spray on shoes in "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs". :confused:

My Garmin GPS has some features which are sorely missing from phones IMO:
The transreflective screen, meaning you can actually see the screen in daylight/bright sunlight with ease.
The solid build quality, it feels it's been designed to be as good as possible, rather than down to a price like most phones now.
The waterproof design - a rubber flap for the USB port, o rings on the battery compartment and they've made the speaker hole small enough water tension keeps it from entering, simple yet effective.
