Re: News - Orange UK launches £69 Tahiti Android tablet

I have checked there online store and its listed as coming soon from free per month ... but no other pricing details.

Looking at the htc flyer is funny though.

The exclusive to orange customers deal is exactly the same as the deal for anybody else. Nice

If its £669 its a rip off. You could get a decent tablet (Prime? Xoom?) for £400 plus giffgaff for £240 for 2 years unlimited internet which is cheaper (£640).
This. It can't be with an existing contract IMO because that existing contract would be funding your phone or whatever. What you say is much better but Orange gets sales because people don't think of that or know about the likes of the excellent giffgaff etc. What Orange *should also* do is offer the tablet outright at best price without contract, like with their San Francisco phone etc and if they can get a good price, corner a budget part of the market.

"At first we thought our eyes were deceiving us – a dual-core, 1.2 GHz-powered. Honeycomb tablet for just £69!"

No offence but writing like this is daft. Did your eye deceive you too when you realised you could get a sofa free from DFS*!!! Or and iphone4 for free omg**!!!!

    *obligation to pay later
    **on contract

Sorry but articles need to stop quoting prices as free or the initial deposit price. Best to say £69 on contract and leave it at that if a headline or continue giving contract highlights if in body of article.

No wonder people get into so much debt. They think they are getting a good deal but end up spending much more in the long run.

Its like with phones. Phone B is "only" £10 more than Phone A a month over two years which works out as £240 for example.

It's like that phase of retailers selling a 'free' netbook, if you pay £40 per month for a £10 per month contract.

Poorly written titled IMO. Everything is free these days, with a 2 year contract. Hexus should not be sensationalising headlines like this....

But as mentioned, pretty much all contracts have this written into them. If you want to avoid it then pretty much the only way is to avoid phone contracts all together.

Personally i don't think the Ts and Cs are that readable, i have discussed this before with Saracen. Aside from using outdated references for government bodies, its your standard legalese nonsense designed specifically to put people off actually reading it.
Your comment about the £1 is just stupid, its not even the amount which is the issue really its the principle of it.

That subject to change thing wouldn't stand up in court; they advertise £10 per month then decide it should be £20,000 but it's OK because it's 'subject to change'? I don't think so...
The "subject to change" thing can and does stand up to court challenge, because it is not unlimited like that. £10 to £20,000 would fail. £10 to £10.50 would not, provided it is within the scope of the change provisions in the contract. The change Orange introduced was within the scope of the change provision. It's hardly their fault if customers, being adults and therefore responsible for their actions, failed to read what they were signing before they signed it.

I find it hard to accept that the provisions Orange made weren't pretty clear in their broad intention and the general effect that that clause might have. So, people either read it and signed, having read it, in which case they've no grounds for complaint. Or they signed a contract without reading it, in which case, more fool them.

Title is a bit misleading don't you think. I thought this was going to be another "Orange San Francisco" hit.

Re: News - Orange UK launches £69 Tahiti Android tablet

To be fair to the device, it's likely to be a rebadged Huawei S7 - in which case it's a dual core snapdragon + adreno GPU, 1280x800 IPS display, multi-touch, 3G, GPS etc... hardly a slouch. Plus you always get ripped if you take the longest contract with the lowest upfront price - I'll wait until they announce other pricing options before I make my mind up

Re: News - Orange UK launches £69 Tahiti Android tablet

The orange store has been updated with the actual prices and its as the article intends to say (Pound less than £70 not a penny)
As per the flyer, the exclusive deal for existing orange customers is exactly the same as the standard deal.
