Re: News - ASUS reveals upgraded Transformer Prime 1080p tablet

    Ummmm....1920x1200 isn't 1080p. It's 1200p. 1920x1080 is 1080p.

Having said that, I'm glad SOMEONE is bringing back 16:10 aspect ratios.

Re: News - ASUS reveals upgraded Transformer Prime 1080p tablet

Wonder what they're going to call this one then "Transformer Prime+" perhaps?

Bad news for Prime users though - they expected to be getting the top level model and now it's effectively been replaced/downgraded.

Be interesting if Asus tried to maintain all of their tablet models as a range - so the existing (non-Prime) Transformer became the entry model, the Prime is middle range, and the new Prime is the top end. Oh, and of course, there's the "pocketable" 7" model that Hexus covered this morning.

I suspect though that the old Transformer will get dropped and the Prime's will be the ones on sale only.

I hope they offer a model that will plug into the normal prime KB, otherwise the early buyers have been well and truly shanked by Asus.

1080 capable =P as so many pixels of the 1200 will go to the bottom bar.

1280x800 > 1920x1200 = 1.5x, if the bottom bar remains a consistent size then the display will essentially be 1080p for all intensive purposes as far as apps and video playback are concerned.

So wait - they literally just shafted everyone who bought a transformer prime? Nice....
Hoping this means people will hold fire on getting the current prime = price drops later?

Re: News - ASUS reveals upgraded Transformer Prime tablet

thinking about it, there has been a lot of rumours about samsung and apple releasing their next tablets with ~2k screens. It could well be Asus being pushed into the higher res screen by competition and not wanting to fall too far behind to quickly.

Im certainly putting my plans on hold to see what happens.

At the very least it was a stupid PR move to announce the tablet before world-wide release, they should have held back until the MWC next month.

Did you mean that it was daft of them to announce the "1080" model before officially shipping the "low res" Prime? If so, then I'm going to agree.

On the other hand, I'll gently suggest that any Prime 1080 launch is going to get swamped at MWC in all the phone launches - especially if Samsung do launch the S3. Heck, if that lives up to half the rumours that have been flying around then it's going to be difficult for anything else to get more than a passing mention. That is, unless Apple changes their minds and decides to leak/launch iPhone5 at MWC of course!

Of course, there's the cynical view that Asus: (a) needed to get the TP1080 out there since, (as "Biscuit" says), other folks were doing the large screens; and (b) they want to focus press attention at MWC on the PadFone (at least in whatever form/spec it is in/at that week!)

I don't think they literally shafted anyone, not unless they came out to their house with a shaft and...well...you know...
