Still no compelling reason to buy if you already have sandy bridge P67/Z68 IMO. I guess as those boards go end of line, these'll take over.
It's not like PCI-E 3.0 is setting the world alight with new kit for it that can take advantage of it....

Maybe. But if you're buying new (or in a few weeks and can hold on) I'd probably opt for the Z77 over Z68 if the price premium is around ~£20 for an equivalent board, don't forget you will be getting 2x PCI-e x16 2.0 with IVB processors as well.
But as you've pointed out, i may have a look around for a 7970 PCI-e 3 vs 2.
