Errrm it's been doing this for ages? I've been asking Google for TFL routes for a while, it tells me what bus/tube/overground combo. Did it not work outside London before now?

nope....not until this latest version!

AFAIK it's always had public transport information for well populated areas (I know in manchester you can click on a bus stop and get a link to transport direct which gives you information about the next few buses at that stop, for instance), but I don't think it's had direct access to timetable and journey information, so you couldn't use it to plan an end-to-end public transport route. Be interesting to see how it compares to things like transport direct and the local tfgm journey planner...

Seems to work well. I live roughly the same distance from a tube and train station, so this saves me having to check the journey from both.

seems to also have added postcode area information.

for example EC2M shows you the area encompassed by that postcode.

Great news hopefully this will mean we can have a single decent android/iphone app for figuring out the best journey to take to anywhere in the country.

Brilliant news! Train company websites are so terrible, and thetrainline is just painfully slow - this will make it so much easier to quickly look up public transport options. Noticed the postcode outlining the other day too - very handy feature!

This is defintiely one of those situations where a monopoly actually helps the consumer, at least in the short term...

Glad they finally got round to putting a solution in place.

Shame there is no option for removing the bus details from the search - I can get to my local train station by walking, but they suggest that I take the bus to a larger station. No thanks.

I normally use the national rail site when researching trips, but have to do it in two browsers usually, because I want to look at different options side by side.
