Beats reference cards in every way, it seems.

Will not spend anywhere over €170 for 7850 and €230 for 7870. Not a chance. Especially with GTX 6xx coming in a months time. Good luck on that AMD - you have 1 month to get drivers and pricing straight.

Using the exact same cooler on the HD 7850 as the HD 7870 seems a bit odd to me. One of the benefits of the HD 7850 is its shorter length, which makes it viable in more cramped cases (pre-built PCs especially). Asus have removed that benefit by using the same cooler with both models, though.

having to redesign a cooler for a second card costs money and the cooler works so why not.

Neither card looks like it will be wider than an ATx motherboard

True enough, I guess. And no doubt it performs well, being an Asus product.

I'm still glad others such as Sapphire, MSI, Gigabyte etc. put in the extra effort to tailor their coolers to the shorter PCB, though. Theirs don't provoke my OCD so much.

Provided it fits, the larger cooler on the 7850 would be welcome IMO, you'd get a quieter + cooler card for less money than if they'd had to design another one.

Good point. It will be interesting to compare the noise levels and cooling performance of this one with some of the smaller coolers.
