"sentenced several to death" for accessing the uncensored internet...

    That's pretty shocking.

This. While I obviously do not agree with censoring, well... Anything, really - the last thing the Iranians (and pretty much anyone else interested in truth on the world stage) need is the bloody BBC.

NOT this. Some censorship is needed - e.g. you really want nudity, swearing and graphic violence in the breakfast news? I'd also be less than happy if - taking a hypothetical example - they did a "How to build a bomb in your home" programme/feature - for obvious reasons. Suppression of other information - e.g. human rights abuses, rendition, etc - I'm not comfortable to have happening.

As to sources of information, if not the BBC then who? If you're going to say Sky-News/Fox-News then I'll come around there and try and slap some sense into you!
(only joking about the slapping - believing that resorting to violence means that you've lost the argument)

Did anyone come to a conclusion which way the Beeb is biased - the Tory mumblers assert that it's a hot-bed of socialist/communism (depending on the leanings of the speaker), whereas I've heard left-wing commentators complain that it's always trying to please the government, so as not to end up either privatised or funding-reduced. Maybe if the left think it's right-wing, and the right think it is pushing a left-wing agenda then perhaps it's actually balanced?
We wonder if recent attacks are signs of escalation that could bring further attention to Iran and, from a technical standpoint, if the BBC will look to implement any new measures to ensure delivery of its service to the Iranian people.
I wonder if this attack could have been a double-bluff - i.e. by a group opposed to the Iranian government with the idea of focussing attention on the suppressions and abuses of basic rights going on in that country. Just a thought ...

Oh god no not Sky! Murdoch should be in jail; not according to any belief of mine - according to law! I stick to independent news on the net, or play the biases of various large news corps off against one another, knowing roughly their political preferences/agenda - distilling some form of truth through the madness!

I have no problem with nudity whatsoever. So-called "bad language" I'm not bothered about. To be frank, I wish MORE graphic violence was shown at breakfast. Might scare people off war a bit. Dead Iraqi kids and blown in half soldiers should do it. You know, the truth. If this is the way the world is, and you don't like it - change these things happening in society. At least we have inadvertently agreed that whether through censorship or agenda they are all lying to us in one way or another !

I'd be more inclined to believe it's our government. As if the Iranians really want a war with the West. They are already dodging us economically via the gold dealings etc, this hits us where it hurts most. They can just sit back and await the roll of treads now, why speed the process?

OK, where are these independent news on the net's reporters on the front line to show you what's going on?

"independent news on the net" just sounds like a blog to me, and we all know blogs are primary sources of news.

http://www.michaelyon-online.com/ Independent reporter on the front line showing you what's going on. Former Green Beret. Generally accepted to have spent more time embedded with combat forces than any other reporter. Just one example.

Disgraceful behaviour by Iran. Not really sure why people find this out of character for a state admitted to sponsoring multiple proxy wars against us and it's neighbours and state sponsor of terror. I can only hope it's a sign their losing their grip and their people are turning against them to a degree they find going to these lengths necessary.

How about the Beeb goes for the "nuclear" option and gets Clarkson and co to do a "special" on Iran - the Indians seemed to really "like" the one they got at Christmas...

Yes, actually. It would even be good to shake the apathy out of the people if they saw what war is really like, for example. One of the hallmarks of a truly free society is the free flow of information, regardless of how much cognitive dissonance it causes, particularly for those in power. Freer still if their government is volunteering such unflattering information routinely. Fat chance of that, though.

As for Iran's electronic activities, well, I don't like it, but BBC doesn't have an innate right to transmit in Iran, than any bloke on a boat just outside UK territorial waters has to beam radio into the UK. I strongly dislike the Iranian regime, I don't believe the previous election was 'free and fair', and I believe the BBC provides a valuable service to the Iranian people. But, EM spectrum bandwidth is for the Iranian government to manage, and they do have the right to jam transmitters which violate Iranian law.
