20,000 poor souls.
Totally agree the 4S was a stop gap, A5X cpu is a definite component as it's already in production. Steve Jobs would never have sanctioned a thicker iPad though (I said this in the iPad thread but nobody listened, he just wouldn't have let it happen) so form factor wise anything could now happen.
Wonder if they'll break his 3.5" screen is the best size for a smartphone rule? My old X10 was 4" and that seems pathetically small compared to most high end droids now (4.3 or bigger - my new note's 5.3)! Or will they follow the word of jobs blindly?
I'm kind of wondering if I've missed out here - where's the usual hypegasm in the run up to an iPhone launch? Or are all the journo's who do this normally now focused on the Galaxy S3 this year, (seldom seen so many thin rumours trotted out as "fact" in so many places)
I'll be curious - from a purely technical perspective - to see what new toys they trot out for iPhone5. No doubt it'll be a pretty impressive device, especially as the competition (Windows and Android) are busy upping their game, so anything less than a tour-de-force will probably be greeted with a lot of derision.
Not that I'll buy one - it's wrong for me - and I have a preference for Android at the moment.
That was quick, the iPhone 4S is already outdated!

Is it just me, or is this a non-story? Apple supplier hires more people. It's not even as if they ONLY supply Apple (and I've got a bunch of Apple kit!).
More news just in.... My company just hired a new designer in space engineering, rumour has it we are making the StarShip Enterprise next year - just like the one on TV......
I hope it is revolutionary, but my feeling is windows phone 8 will be the next big thing. Microsoft always seems to hit target when they want to.
Yeah, just like they did with Zune, and Vista. Oh, no, wait.....![]()

Has there been any firm information on WP8? Only stuff I've seen has been that it's going to have that same Metro interface as WP7 and something about parts of the OS (kernel?) being shared with the ARM version of "full-fat" Win8.
Got to say (putting my large pro-Nokia bias to one side) that although WP7 devices look reasonable (blue Lumia 800 especially) there's not really been one that's been "different" enough to make me want to dump the investment I've currently got in Android. In which case I'm going to reserve judgement about WP8...
Of course if Nokia were to do a Lumia with WP8 and that hyperpixel camera from the PureView 808 then I might be tempted! But I can't see that happening this year - so 2012 will be a straight Galaxy S3 v's iPhone5 fight I think.
Sure is, but then that's because it's 45nm. Doesn't seem a very good design overall, but I'm guessing Apple where feeling the need for a new iPad. Also it and the new display have meant that to keep the battery life similar the iPad got thicker. Saint Steve (!) wouldn't have let that happen, he'd have kept the A5 I reckon and kept it same thickness. However, as said, now he's gone I'd expect a bigger display and form factor now so why not the A5X? If it's the A6 they'd get a huge amount of critiscm for the iPad and A5X and Apple very rarely make a new cpu and then not re-use it in updated products.

To update this rumour, looks like TI has ramped up production of its power management chips, with Chinese suppliers suggesting a release target of September.
