I think Nokia made a mistake going with Microsoft for their software.

Ah well... its all to be expected and the blame lands firmly at the feet of us the consumers.

In our desire for the latest quad core this, bigger screen and higher resolutions it appears that we are the beta testing teams now for all the major handset providers.

I'd be happier with a new release every 2 years that is tested and stable as opposed to lots of incremental updates with very small changes to the specifications.

Agree. Had both, Samsung Galaxy S2 and Nokia Lumia 800. Both great phones in terms of hardware (with some minor flaws). But OS is different story all together. Kind of get it why so many users go for iOS. More polished software, more unified, less hardware variations. Sweet spot.

I don't think major manufacturers have consumer in mind. It's all about capitalising and short term gains (seems like anyway).

My Galaxy note has been rock solid since I got it and i've not even installed the latest firmware (I've rooted mine to titanium backup) - Never had an serious issues with my X10 (apart from getting very slow towards the end of its second year).

The Windows 7.5 and 8 (beta) also have less hardware variations than Android. Actually there is currently only one for windows 7.5, all phones on this OS meet the same minimum spec and all software is designed to work on any hand set.

In my experience of the Nokia Lumia 800, it is a much more polished OS than Android and nicer to use than Apple OS or Android. I think Windows 8 will be a killer Mobile OS...

Windows 8 takes a step further allowing seamless integration across home computer, tablet and phone.

I think you're being a little hard on us - sure there's the nerd who are already looking for something more "modern" than their latest quad-core, 10Mpix 4G monster.

On the other hand, there's a lot of folks out there quite happy with mere mono or even dual-core devices and I'll politely suggest that a degree of the "feature creep" is due to the manufacturers desperately trying to distinguish themselves from others.

Agreed - the current pace of Android is ridiculous - a new major version every year is just plain ridiculous. I'm fervently hoping that now they've finally got something really good (in ICS) that the breakneck pace will slow to something a bit more sensible. However, I'm still paranoid enough to think that the manufacturers have something to do with this - wanting to obsolete "last year model" to force you to buy the new gear.

Very sensible - after all a similar approach seems to work very well for Apple. But now it would appear that Microsoft instead want to introduce "Tango" to confuse the market. Idiots

    And perhaps XBox720/XBoxNG?
