£350 for an MSI 3gig 7970 is a bargain to be honest.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-msi-radeon-hd-7970-5500mhz-gddr5-28nm-gpu-925mhz-2048-cores-dvi-i-hdmi-mini-dp

OK... I'm not in line as I don't need a card.. but if I did.. this would keep me in the AMD camp.

Does this card come with the convertors to make it easy to run 3 monitors with DVI inputs?

the review HEXUS did a few months ago on the Sapphire one did. Not all monitors are Display Port compatible... nor even HDMI to be honest.

I've got 6 monitors in total and not one of them has a display port plug 'ole nor an HDMI slot.

Still too expensive in my humble opinion.

I know that the 7950 and 7970 are impressive monolithic cards with a lot of memory behind them, but considering just how many sites list the 680 as "beating" the 7970 (even by a relatively small percentage), the pressure is really on AMD to give value to the customers now to keep sales high.

I do wonder how Nvidia was able to get its mid-end card (GK104) to best the 7970 though. Whilst some might argue that it's not a mid-end card as it's the best that Nvidia currently has out, the fact that the GK110 is being worked on and absolutely huge compared to the GK104 suggests otherwise.

I hope that AMD and Nvidia keep pushing each other, as I've not seen that much overall improvement in recently years from AMD, going from the 4000 to 6000 series. Perhaps it's just a sign that I should upgrade every other card generation though to make the improvements more noticeable!

Can't afford to upgrade at present anyway, alas.

No price cuts on the 7800 range then. I guess this is because there is nothing that competes directly yet. I'm quite disappointed with the new Graphics card releases over the last couple of years. In the past you would typically get a new card coming out offering twice the performance of the previous generation for the same price. Now when a new card comes out you barely get better value than the previous generation - indeed in many cases you get less bang for buck.

Seen as Hexus haven't update their charts, for those interested the 7970 still lags behind the GTX 680 in Bang-for-buck.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

It does indeed feel like we're more-noticeably constrained now by Moore's Law than we used to be.

I suppose that a lot of the sudden improvements in graphics card power between generations was due to not reaching the current power constraints. In the same way, mobile GPUs are often increasing in speed by 50% or more per year at present as they have yet to reach the constraining point, above which all gains will be much more moderate and more to do with adding features.

It is sad though when a generational improvement only sees 10-20% improvement over the previous card, but I suppose that's the price to pay for yearly architecture updates.

I'm still ticking along fine with my 5850, after nearly 2 years! This is sad, I don't want to spend more than 220 quid for an upgrade; something that performs + 50%.
