As much as I like stories like these, giving us an insight into future technology, the research they describe rarely seems to lead to consumer products.
Variously, I recall:
- DVDs made of paper that can hold 25GB
- Hard drives based on electron spin
- Optical transistors
Perhaps I'm too impatient. Regardless, it's a good informative article.
Have Nano! in your research grant = more money.
It is all well and good increasing CPU and essentially RAM mentioned in this artical but data storage is still way behind and even with a top end SSD is still the slowest component in any system.
sorry I should have clarified my point! SATA ports are holding back the data transfer speeds and even OCZ's PCIe ZDrive tech is only achieving 2,800 MB/s through RAID. (http://www.oczenterprise.com/ssd-products/z-drive-r4-rm-series-solid-state-drives.html) so with this new tech a faster interface would have to be used that is as affordable as SATA because PCIe 3.0 x16 is fast but making it the standard for your system drive? still an awesome tech and I am looking forward to seeing it implemented
