Is it the same skill-less click-fest? Some PC gaming hasn't progressed much in the last decade (apart from graphics-wise of course) *sigh*...

Re: News - Play Diablo III for free this weekend

I wouldn't say it was skillless (although the beta was pretty easy on "Normal" difficulty but it is certainly a clickfest!

I think actually combat is becoming MORE like this. People seemed to praise the Witcher II combat compared to other RPGs and to me that was pretty much Action RPG / Hack and Slash combat.

Well Diablo was always a click fest, so if anything it's going back to how things used to be than becoming a new trend. The Witcher 2's combat was praised because if you just click spammed away you wouldn't survive - you needed to use some tactics/preparation.

I think Dark Messiah of Might and Magic's melee combat was pretty decent (and head & shoulders above Oblivion or Gothic 3). Deserved a sequel for sure - Arkane is a good RPG developer: their next project, Dishonored, looks decent too.

There are enough Diablo-likes about already IHMO - and they're pretty good too (Nox was my favourite, Titan Quest was OK).

Never played Dungeon Siege, Torchlight, et al - I think that there's only so much you can do with what is really a pretty simplistic concept

Played through as Barbarian and got as far as the "crown" using a demon hunter before getting kicked. Good game. Cant wait for the full version to arrive.

And this is why i am not interested in D3. not my type of game even if it was shoved in my face for free.

It seems from my own understand that D3 is just D2 with updated graphics. Diablo fans of the old will love it of course but for me i like to have a bit of refreshing/unique features/ideas implemented in games

exactly, first person shooters generally just require a left click (right trigger for console) and wasd, not exactly a much more indepth gameplay and i think thats where D3 and other games come into play as they have all different armour creation and many effects etc .

What fps have u been playing? just COD? because the likes of fallout, deus ex, TF2,battlefield, Arma etc etc ARE all different compared to each other.

if you mean by saying "COD" games are the same with no depth then yea i agree but to label a whole genra and saying all games in that genra offer no differences and uniqiness is ludacris.

@Kal, what is your point? what has FPS got to do with me disliking Diablo type hack and slash games?

i dont like hack and slash games like diablo and i bet you probably dont like Fifa football games. each to there own.

Now if Diablo 3 was MORE then a hack and slash platform game, maybe huge explorable levels or some other unique thing that no Diablo game never had then i will be interested in it.

Now dont get me wrong, Dialbo 3 may have what i have just indicated but from what i know of the at present with the info and videos i have seen is that it is an old school platform hack and slash game that you can do coop on.

I may also try out this beta tomorrow IF i have time. in weekends i dont game much if not all and one of the reasons why i have not even bothered pre purchasing GW2 to participate in a weekend beta that i wont have a chance to try

Re: News - Play Diablo III for free this weekend

Well you just made my point for me. You complained that you didn't like Diablo 3 because you
like to have a bit of refreshing/unique features/ideas implemented in games
but when challenged that the situation is the same with FPS you say that there are loads of different ideas/features.

Diablo 3 is massively different from the previous Diablos - the way you spec and develop your character is completely different, and fairly unique. The economy is different. The real money auction house is different. To someone outside of the genre then of course it's still going to look like an action RPG, just like every war based shooter looks the same to people who aren't into FPS. That they've still managed to capture the feel of Diablo, despite the massive changes, is testament to the very hard work Blizzard have put in, and even that's not enough for lots of fans who think the changes go too far.

But if you didn't like action RPGs before, then you aren't going to like the successor to the game that made them popular in the first place. Despite the fact D3 has lots of things in that no Diablo game has had before.

Finally managed to get around the install problem and after trying this morning, and have to say that I enjoyed it.

Still getting my head round the classes and skills, but all in all, it's the diablo I love

No connectivity issues at all once I finally got logged into battle.net, so the persistent connection isn't causing issues yet. Graphically, it's strange. I have fraps on and its apparently solid at 60 with the rig that I have, but something doesn't feel right, or smooth enough. Haven't messed with the options much (it's all on max) so not sure if it's one of them, but I'll let it go for now, hopefully it's sorted by release.

Wasn't going to be getting this, but after 20 good minutes, i'm really hyped.

Re: News - Play Diablo III for free this weekend

mmm very tempted to try this..but with a game like this I might just force myself to wait. I'm having the same issue with the mysts of panderia beta for WoW - I want to try it BUT it's pretty pointless as I can't transfer my characters or progress to the full game, so I would have to replay it later.

Not quite the same as with Star Wars Old Republic, where you culd start playing a few weeks before release but you got the transfer your characters. Shame that the game was no fun though

I'll probably give this a shot later today on one class..may 15th is a long time away!

edit: OK so I've played about 15 min of it..awesome fun so far So much so that I've stopped, and am installing Diablo II again now for something to play, don't want to ruin the experience any more can't wait for the 15th now...

Re: News - Play Diablo III for free this weekend

Got it, played it, finished it,

    Only with the Barbarian tho,

Just like Diablo 2, with updated gfx, better pickup system, extra character equipment slots,(shoulders, legs, wrists), slightly different skill set, dual wield from start (dunno if any of the other classes can)

I will be buying it, on launch, no question!
