I knew I wasn't just being lazy putting off my new PC build! Gotta love price cuts on the 8120 though, perfect processor for me
Piledriver still six months away, these price cuts will help AMD sell these Bulldozer cores. Still does the £20 cut make a 8120 a good buy? What intel CPU does that it put it against.
AMD £20 cashback ends on the the 29th of February:

It means the CPU is now around £130. OcUK,have it at the same price with a copy of the latest Deus Ex game,so if you get it with the cashback from them and have free postage it means the CPU is effectively £120:

It depends.....you could argue that it's up against the 2130......although personally I think that's slightly unfair as the likelihood is that the intel mobo would be costing more.
Although it's a very tight section of the market.....for £20 more (old 8120 price effectively) you can get a 2310.
So depending on workload, heat, noise, current mobo etc, you have a wealth of choice in that £120-140 bracket.

It all depends on what you think about the other competition out there. Bulldozer needed to slash the cost in order to stay competetive in the market. The corresponding server chip (Opteron 6200 series) already have enough price difference to make them worth consideration. Interesting to see what the new FM2 chips bring to the market and what Piledriver can solve that let Bulldozer down so much. Personally I would still buy i5 or i7 but this is because there is guaranteed futureproofing. However it is an interesting point that shaithis makes which is the mobo costs and power consumption.
AMD loves power so those who live for cost savings power wise....... Not bad for our American cousins.
