That is also quite meaningless in the context of this article, unless your suggesting it galvanises people between Full Frame and a Mobile Phone?
But the users of Flickr? how's that relate to Camera Phones vs Cameras.......................
(you can see where I'm coming from)
not quite my friend. article mentions twitter and iphone that is why i mention 5d2 being 2nd most popular camera.
it is related to camera phones vs camera due to the fact that one of the highest popular photo sharing site shows that DSLR's and in particular a pro body is very very popular.
If you read this article even more and even the headline, you will also understand that dedicated camera's are still selling well despite the surge in iphone/mobile phone camera's.
But as it states, part of canon selling well is this:
Quote:
The extra profit announced by Canon wasn’t all due to the demand for its cameras. Canon get 80 per cent of their income from exports and the Bank of Japan monetary stimulus has reduced the value of the Yen. Canon's CFO, Toshizo Tanaka explained “Most of the 150 billion addition to sales and 70 billion increase in the operating profit forecast came from the 5 yen weaker yen-dollar rate.”
Re: News - Camera sales survive smartphone assault
The only thing you can infer is that iPhone 4 and Canon Eos5D MK2 users are more likely to upload pictures onto flickr. This is the problem with these articles.

Ah but its not, its not the 2nd most popular camera, those words would imply in terms of either sales, or even just user desire, or something, not a very specific set of users.

But so what? I would hazard a dumb guess that by far and away Facebook outnumbers flckr for sharing images.
In the context of the article its not very helpful to know that. When you drill down deeper in to the source of the stats you've got. http://www.flickr.com/cameras/canon/ you see that all which is stated is that they are more active in using the website.
The problem I have is the connection between Camera's surviving a predicted slump of the Smartphone. Because ultimately Cannon are not talking about the sales of the 5Dm2.

I don't know where you think I'm saying they didn't.
I'm just saying that to suggest, based on Flickr, its the 5Dm2 that is responsible for this, is erm, unsubstantiated.

Makes sense. Article could have been written better.
Based on actual info of the article. it is misleading as canon have not made such a huge sale based on a large surge in actual sold products but more to do with the Yen currency!
Re: News - Camera sales survive smartphone assault
Yup thats what I was talking about in post 9, forex = Foreign Exchange.
I'd say flickr stats are just insights in to certain kinds of people, the same way Crumpler bags wouldn't be remotely representative of all people.
