    significant improvements to the operating system's Unity front-end
    Well that wouldn't be difficult! I'm pretty happy with my current 10.04LTS release, so I'll have a look at 12.04 (in a VM) but if Unity's as obnoxious as it was previously then I'm going to defect to Mint.

    Is 12.04 the one with this "hud" feature that Mr S'worth was talking about? I thought it was.

    Yup. And it is as I expected, largely stupid.

    I downloaded and installed this onto my ION box yesterday, seems alright but i havnet probed into it too deeply.

    Unity is a nice idea but its quite frustrating at times as it just seems to be lacking some basic GUI functionality.

    So it's not the "almost AI" that they seemed to be promising and, as a lot of folks predicted, merely an implementation of the Win7's app search function? Major disappointment if that's the case.

    Just like Metro in Windows 8 ... ?

    Well I'm about to swap disk drives in my laptop so I'll drop 12.04 on and see if Unity is any better.

    I won't get my hopes up, though. Still, it's easy enough to fix: `sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop`
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    It's nice, but I have been playing around with openSUSE recently and in the process have been discovering KDE 4.8 and GNOME 3, both of which are just awesome. They will keep me occupied for a while.
