I think you mean €7 or £5.60 but its far better than the £3.07 Orange charge per megabyte at the moment. Plus it only gets better year after year. Its all good news for consumers.

I still think it's completely wrong that both parties get charged for the call - full on ballbag

Re: News - Mobile roaming charges cut from 1st July

    It is pretty logical though.

Someone in the UK shouldn't have to pay more just because the person they are calling is in europe (they might not know this at the time). It wouldn't be fair if they got hit with a large bill. I don't see the problem, in principal, with the roaming mobile picking up an international call charge. However, the charges that used to be in place until the EU got involved were completely outrageous.

Shame nothing can be done about the £1.50/min when outside the EU

When you call from i.e. Ireland, Vodafone to Germany, Virgin (or whatever there is) Vodafone provides facilities to make the call and thus it costs them some money (relatively little but still), while Virgin uses their own hardware and software to make sure user receives the call (hence the charge). All very fair. The only way not to charge that much is to have monopoly everywhere but then again, we know what happens when market is ruled by Monopoly or even Monopolists and isn't properly regulated.

But of course the EU does nothing for the guy in the street ... or at least that's according to the UKIP dude who decided to harangue me the other day.

Hmm, yes, that's in my mind too. I'm off on holiday to the US in autumn time and I made the mistake of asking my teleco whether there was anything I could do to get cheaper calls/data when out there - needless to say they weren't exactly helpful.

Folks keep saying about getting a "cheap" PAYG SIM when I'm out there, but that's something I guess I'll have to look into.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Re: News - Mobile roaming charges cut from 1st July

It's capped at £50 or 50 Euro I think, but that just means you can't get any more data once the cap is hit. The bar can be removed, as well...
