It's quite an achievement that google have managed to topple the default pre-installed browser (IE).
Chrome was my favorite browser for a few weeks, but then Google made it install a load of crummy bloatware games on my home page which I don't want. I uninstall, they reinstall, repeat ad-infinitum. The end result was me switching back to Firefox, which easily imported all my shortcuts from Chrome (minus the game bloatware links).

chrome with opt out data profiling, good enough for me... besides using google would already give them alot of your data!.
Every other browser seems pretty bad atm, apart from IE as that is actually a solid browser now but the problem is... there is no syncing of data like there is in chrome, in chrome i can have all my data recovered in an instant (bookmarks etc) and i can even open tabs from other devices so my laptop has a tab and i can use it on my pc, genius! If microsoft did something like that via say skydrive id stick to IE.
Was comparing available versions at the time when Chrome was released in Sept 2008 to backup the point of it being a trend setter.
You sure you don't have some trojan or dodgy extension? I've used chrome for years on several machines and never seen this sort of behaviour ever.

Yep.But then again, the default pre-installed browser on my main system is Firefox (because that system isn't Windows-based)
Haven't seen that myself. My two biggest Chrome hates are:
1. RSS feeds aren't sync'd properly - so the box you used to set them up has them as proper (dynamically updated) feeds, other systems lose the dynamic update - e.g. my TuxRadar rss is showing articles from a year ago on my Windows box.
2. For lord knows what reason, Chrome on my Ubuntu box refuses to put Hexus on it's "Most Visited Pages" area, instead preferring to show pages that I visit maybe once a month. On my Windows box however it's got two Hexus entries on MVP, one with a broken thumbnail that I can't remove without also deleting the other one.

These days - for me at least - IE is an irrelevance. The only place I use it is at work, and that's for the usual reason - that some of the most-needed pages are IE specific (stupid, stupid, stupid,...). Chrome feels faster, and FF more secure - and both of them will run quite happily on my Linux box, smartphone and tablet. IE on the other hand is stuck in it's Windows-only ivory tower.
Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...
Chrome is the new daddy or has already been with clued up PC users but now we can see that the wider general public are getting in on the act.
I must say though for basic browsing IE9 does the job and is just as quick. It seems the greater degree of customisation with Chrome appears to be the USP.
The last 5 computer I've fixed (due to the user being useless) have had chrome installed and NOT used. Hell, when I asked them about it they didn't even know what it was! Granted, it's a very small sample..
As for anti-competitive ruling, aren't they now the underdog so can get away with it more?
