Low profile version would be awesome.

Its a bit crap though. It can barely beat the overpriced HD6670 GDDR5 and the GT640 costs more.

I wouldn't get one myself for the reasons you state but price aside; the more low profile cards the merrier, more choice and competition for the smaller HTPC.

The GT640 should have been launched with 1GB of GDDR5 in a low profile card. It seems Nvidia really seems to not really launch compelling products for under £100 anymore.
Re: News - NVIDIA launches GeForce GT 640, brings Kepler to the masses
To fit it onto a low profile form factor card, you might have to add extra layers to the PCB in order to route it. That'll push the cost up, so chances are it's not been done because such a SKU wouldn't be at a good price point.
That could be a reason; I have no idea if it is the reason.

Seems expensive for what it is.

DDR3 tends to use less electricity too... so it might be that reasoning that it's tied to DDR3 at the moment.

Some 20% slower than the 7750, higher temps and power draw. Looks like normal service is resumed at the volume end of the market, with AMD a mile ahead again.
When was the last time Nvidia made a decent mainstream card? This is terrible.

There are some reviews in this thread:

It looks like the GT650M is around 20% faster than the GT640M due to GDDR5:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gami...ce-tested.html
Both are GK107 based and have 384 shaders.
The GT650M has a higher clockspeed than the GT640M too:
