Meh, not liking that everything has to be fullscreen or that you can only view two apps at once, the OS is called Windows, seems silly that on the default interface you cant have multiple (3 or more) windows open at once.
Welcome to Windows Vista Millennium edition 3.1.

It should be called Microsoft Walls/Slates/Tiles/${some other masonry term}.

Do you have to do a secret handshake to unlock the machine?

It's not silly at all. By only having one app open at a time, battery life can be conserved - just look at iOS or Android tablets. I hated the beta release but the release client is really good - and I'm a desktop user. Having the apps makes it so much faster to do things than with a browser.
Desktop and laptop users will want this as it's better than the old Windows (it's faster and cleaner and the apps don't leave behind rubbish like regular Windows programs).
It's annoying and unfair that they've blocked other browsers from running on the ARM architecture and there are a few other things I don't like about it but overall - it's a good OS.

What the hell? It's suppose to be a multitasking time-shared desktop OS. Desktop software takes as long as it takes to get something done, then it cedes CPU time back to the OS. All of a sudden we have to go back to 1950's computing? I don't think so.

Is having two applications open on the same screen not enough?

Not even remotely close.

Out of general curiosity, how many do you have open? I have three monitors so I suppose I don't need more than two per monitor and hence why I might be missing the problem.

I have about 50+ things open all the time, makes no difference whether its work or home use. Also why would Microsoft make the decision instead of me on how many things I have open?

50 things! My god - you own multitasking. :clapping:
As with most things in life, the changes are designed to create a better experience for the majority of users. Microsoft aren't worried about a few enthusiasts :( and would rather try and impress regular consumers. After all, you can never make everybody happy - ever.
Which - from a business standpoint makes sense, however annoying it is.

Depending on what I'm doing, I could have as many as 20 application windows in play at a time. That's why windowing systems were developed in the first place.

Except regular folks, aren't impressed at all. And I'm a big fan of the 80/80 rule, but that's just taking the piss. There are much more obvious and less crippling areas where superfluous code can be stripped out.
Re: News - A glance at Google Chrome for Microsoft Windows 8 Metro
My friend is a complete Apple fan boy and will never say nout bad against his iMac it is Godlike to him, however when trying Win8 on his mac he was hooked, said it was brilliant but obviously not 100% (this was the first beta not the new release) but it was small niggles, only reason he switched back was because of his bootcamp messing up and basically destroying his imac and requiring him to reformat :P.
Another friend who is like me a strong windows user but he loved it on the laptop, he would not say anything bad about it.
Some hate some dont is what im getting at, majority of enthusiats hate it but its like 50/50 for the general public... i guess at the end of the day its better than OSX as it still tells you why it crashed instead of the endless circle :P.
But back onto the chrome bit, its lovely having it fullscreen without the toolbar and stuff when on a LAPTOP its a godsend, when i tried it that was probably the best bit about win8! For desktop, it would be nice but only if it was simply to remove the top of the browser, i.e you can have two chrome windows up side by side and both are just emptyboxes (bar the actual website!).
Apart from that i cant see anything else being good for the desktop side, i find it impressive that you guys can do like 20 - 50 different tasks/applications, i do hope you dont mean like 20 webtabs! I generally can have about 2 web browsers open (with numerous tabs), my audio player, outlook, MS word, MS Office, MS Visual Studios, MS power point, and skype maybe dropbox to. Thats about it but then im still stuck with one 23" monitor, its not enough! Must have three :D.
Re: News - A glance at Google Chrome for Microsoft Windows 8 Metro
The thing is - metro will only limit multi-tasking when using the metro style programs. You can still have 50 windows open in the desktop part - no?
