My reasoning for my previous statement is that for workloads where CPU power really does matter, cost is less of an issue. If you have a workload that can saturate 8 threads, it can likely saturate more. Get a workstation/server type setup with CPU's with even more throughput to get the job done quicker.
Anything that cannot saturate 8 threads is not benefiting from 8 cores. Why not save a packet and go for a better all round CPU/APU, such as an A10 with cheaper motherboards to boot!
If you really do need single/lightly threaded performance, a Core i5 SB or IB CPU will be substantially faster.

Secondly, 4 GHz is 11% faster than 3.6 GHz. Expecting 20 to 30% average performance improvement across the board for the FX-8350 is optimistic at best, downright delusional at worst. The single core turbo maximum frequency has not changed either.
For a 20% average performance improvement, that requires over an 8% IPC improvement. Optimistic I think. Optimistic but possible.
For a 30% improvement, a 17% IPC increase is required. Anyone who at this point in time believes that is either a little too in love with AMD or has been listening to someone who is a little too in love with AMD.
Right! So now you are calling me delusional!!

So,now you move over to petty insults.

Again its all about price point vs performance. If you need bleeding edge performance for gaming and high end encoding you will buy an i7, then the 8150 sits in the grey zone in between that and the i5.

I would really like to see the AMD chips take off in terms of performance per watt comapred to Intel. AMD always seemed like the American Muscle car whereas Intel is more of the refined European car. AMD will perform to an extent but burn a lot of "fuel" doing so, whereas Intel are more expensive but will be consistent performers and use a lot less power.

Don't know if anyone else agrees.....

Wow. I did accuse you of militancy and I believe that is justified in the response I quoted.

Unless you are referring to the now edited post by CAT-THE-FIFTH, contents of which I did not see pre edit, I think that is unfair.

This is a comparison between two manufacturer's product lines, not a duel (core) to the death!

Perhaps a water cooling shower all round might take the heat out some of the arguments, and concentrate on the technical issues.

Or an injection of humour might lighten the mood. Great post, made me chuckle.

What militancy - in your head or something??

The militancy where I have helped hundreds of people over the years with rigs specifying Intel and AMD CPUs?? Or the dozens of threads about the latest technology from other companies I have started??

The fact that my last two rigs have been Intel and my criticisms of AMD in the SFF PC area are well known on this forum.

Unlike you I do not believe in flip-flop and purchase justification responses. I have at least some sources to back up part of what I was saying.

You start throwing insults to start thread thrashing the thread(I have seen people do it on other forums like overclock.net). Then when you don't get the response you want, you start to act like the victim.

    Wow.

Anyway,I have wasted enough time with you.

1: Claim your £20 cashback from AMD
2: Who cares what will be out at some point in the future. You made the decision based on what you knew at the time. There's nothing wrong with that.
    3: Smile.

Very true. Likewise 100 wpm in Word or ... 100 wpm in Word.

What we want is a competitive CPU that can do everything fast.
Very true. Everything fast. We want it.

The fact Intel CPU's might be faster on benchmarks doesn't mean they are any faster in real world applications.
Very true. Because data analysis, media processing, transaction processing, compilation and debugging, etc. aren't real world applications.
