Its about time but yes can't help but agree it'll struggle against the Nexus 7 if its not same price/cheaper. Also does this mean we get the fire 1 while the US gets the 2 or am I misreading it? If so it'll be even more of a flop over here unless its ~£100...
Its a shame Amazon have already failed given the Nexus is here next week. The nexus is also better . . . .
The biggest mistake Amazon made was not releasing the fire at the same time it did in the US. Now it is coming out in October long after the Nexus and up against Microsoft's surface, new Asus, Samsung, Apple and Sony tablets.
Crap timing unless they pull something special out of the bag.

After this news looks like I'll be pointing my wife at a Nexus 7
I imagine it will be the Fire2 otherwise it would be a waste of time and there is no way it would be number 6 in the top ten tech gifts this xmas (as predicated by the Dixons group).

too little and too late - the nexus 7 is due next week and the ipad mini at the same time as this
Then again, maybe DSG are just trying to "talk up" the Fire to get it sold - given the time they've taken I'm inclined to agree with the article writer that we're probably getting the "original" version. After all, pretty sure that the US will have "first dibs" on the Fire2.
Did I miss something - I thought the "iPad Mini" was still merely a rumour?
I can't help thinking that unless Amazon price REALLY competitively (e.g. 16GB Fire2 for £140 say) then why would anyone that knew enough to get a KF not just get a Nexus7 instead - after all it's cheaper and there's been some statement that the usual high street (okay, retail park) retailers are going to be allowed to sell it too. Oh, and of course the Nexus is full Android, not some Amazon-butchered version.
On the other hand, I'm looking forward very much to the availability of the Amazon App Store (UK) - just hope that Apple UK aren't planning a legal strike against it.
Despite the obvious superiority of the nexus 7, I can still imagine Amazon racking up a fair few sales with this, considering the brand awareness that the 'Kindle' name possesses.
