To be fair, when high tech firms are considering where to locate, they are likely to be looking at high tech concentration points, so London, Silicon Valley, Sydney, etc etc.

Southampton isn't even likely to be on the map.

Most tech firms (where people actually do tech work as opposed to the pen pushers in head office) in the UK are in the M3/M4 corridors. There's also big clusters around Manchester/Leeds and Edinburgh.

Funny you should mention Edinburgh. Amazon has had a development centre in Scotland for a number of years, and have recently moved into central Edinburgh, and are also hiring a whole range of technical positions - amazondc.com

Thanks for pointing that out - I was wondering the other day who'd moved into the old post office building. Nice to see that they use a Linux "top" output in their advert too.
