been playing with this a little and I have to say I like it!
However, as I don't trust google, who are kinda creepy with their scanning of mail, I still won't trust Microsoft either.
But I have to say the interface is loverly, only complaint I can't seem to re-order my email inboxes....

I really don't care a jot what they do to the Hotmail UI - just as long as they leave in the external interface that I use with Thunderbird. Yes, I know that the whole point of having a webmail service is that you're supposed to use it via the browser and get bombarded with adverts - but I prefer a proper email client (although the Hotmail-on-Android client is quite good).
Can't be surprised that they're Metro-izing the mail interface - because let's be honest that tile-based interface seems to be everywhere else.
The interface is very good actually, better than Gmail. The features aren't quite up to par though, like the spam filter, etc. Bringing all of Microsoft's products and services together under a cohesive unified approach is long overdue, and Metro is actually very good, it's just not ideal for desktops, but hopefully that will be resolved with Windos 9. For Web applications and touchscreen devices it's great.
Hate this Metro UI crap.
I rememebr they tried soemthing simialr when Live was launched, anyone remember ? where you could drag your emails to Folders.
Mine still looks the old fashioned way ... so did Microsoft abandon it or did I opt out ?
oh. i went to outlook.com now its taking me there every time

Looks good to me even though I'm no sure if I'd like a metroised desktop os

I don't see the new interface... mine still logs into mail.live.com with my ".co.uk" address and the interface is still the same as it has been for years.
Maybe only the American site has been switched over and only people with ".com" addresses can access it; if that isn't the case then they've made a mistake somewhere because using both Firefox and Chrome displays the old interface.
EDIT: Went direct to outlook.com and now it has changed, seems you have to go there otherwise it doesn't change. I look forward to changing my email address though, get to change it from my gaming persona to my real name.
Outlook.com has existed for a while previously to this (my University has been using it since 2008). I think Outlook was more aimed at business email accounts rather than the general public (hotmail accounts). You could still login in to hotmail via outlook.com but not vice versa.
This seems more of a merger of the two services (with a polished UI) rather than hotmail being replaced by a new email service.

I've swapped all my hotmail over, I like it so far plus the added bonus of having all my addresses personalised to my name over using an alias is definitely worth the the switch...
Oh dear, I've signed up for an Outlook.com address, without thinking about whether the android Hotmail app will work with it.
Idiot.
woooo i got a new outlook account with a better name than i have now

...and now my hotmail app on my sensation doesn't work, and it won't log in with the Outlook address. Ho hum.
Yep me too. Damn the last thing I wanted was that. Now I've got to put up with an horrific interface and colour font etc. /sigh.
