Wireless charging works by having a coil of wire with an alternating current through it. The current produces electromagnetic waves (via Faraday's Law, if you care) which radiate away. If you put an additional coil of wire nearby, the waves will induce a current in the second one; if you want to visualise it, they're 'absorbed' by the second coil. You're not going to get zapped unless you have a nice coil of wire inside you.
This is exactly how an air-core transformer works.
