Wireless charging works by having a coil of wire with an alternating current through it. The current produces electromagnetic waves (via Faraday's Law, if you care) which radiate away. If you put an additional coil of wire nearby, the waves will induce a current in the second one; if you want to visualise it, they're 'absorbed' by the second coil. You're not going to get zapped unless you have a nice coil of wire inside you.

This is exactly how an air-core transformer works.

It doesn't at the moment, but Samsung "announced" that they were going to do an inductive charging accessory later in the year (in which case they better pull their finger out, since the year is slipping away fast). From what little information is out there the kit consists of a base station (charger) and a new back for the S3 - although some reports I've read have also said that the kit has a new battery too, perhaps built into the new back (so the battery can be charged inductively or via the usual micro-USB route.

So they are already showing the pads, because they are using some standard.

Interestingly, the 920 has a 2,000mah battery, the SIII has a 2,100mah battery, but a quad rather than a dual S4 CPU.

Bet the WP has twice the life of the S3.

Whislt I'm in full banboy mode

Is kinda cool. I'd already noticed when cycling that my lumia 800 was better than my friends iPhone 4S or SIII for responding to touches, and the generic handlebar waterproof case allows more touches registered, it works with the others too, just not as well. They should really market that feature, I feel like a fool when I'm wearing my winter cycling gloves, phone goes off, pull over to side of road, remove phone from bag, then try to awnser with my nose, because winter gloves are too padded!

Re: News - Nokia Lumia 920 to include wireless charging and more

Does anyone know what the official list of colours are for the 900, I see yellow red and grey mainly, are they just showing off their new colours and adding to the current selection (cyan, pink, white red) or will these be the only colours available, i like the yellow, but im not sure id really want my device to stand out that much, whereas the cyan/blue doesnt stand out so much but still very unique

    Black, White, Grey, Red, Yellow.

They've also gone with a gloss finish instead of matte. I guess it's because of the US, where the 900 sold a few units. The 900 and 920 don't look dissimilar, so by going with new colours and a gloss finish it becomes obvious which handset is which. A shame really - quite fancied a Cyan one (though Canary Yellow will do nicely ).

Re: News - Nokia Lumia 920 to include wireless charging and more

I'm looking at the Nokia Lumia 820 myself. It looks as though the 820 doesn't have Corning Gorilla Glass protection according to Gsmarena:

    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4968&idPhone2=4967

Hopefully they're wrong, but it is probably the correct spec. It might not be a big deal as I always get a case and screen cover regardless. The pricing has yet to revealed too, so if there is not much difference between the 920 and 820, I *may* bite the bullet and get a 920! :O Well, we'll see and there are still phones coming from HTC etc so who knows.
