It does feel as if we (the UK) are being treated as second-class citizens. We won't be getting the Kindle Paperwhite either, apparently

Shouldn't that be treated like second class citizens again? I seem to remember a distinct lack of the original kindle fire in the UK previously. I seem to remember at one point, there was talk of amazon offering the fire (finally) to the UK... to get rid of old stock when they started selling the new versions stateside!

What concerns me is "... though, as-per-usual, Amazon has heavily customised the software, ..."

Customised quite how? How tied-in to Amazon stores/services is it? That's what'll determine if it's a contender or a total non-starter for me.

Latest 7" versions of the Kindle will be available in the UK:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...=famstripe_kO2

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...pf_rd_i=468294

The 8.9" version will only be available in the US in November,so I suspect it will take somewhat longer to reach the UK.

It's honestly like they don't want our money. I just don't get it. I'm seeing this all the time lately, like when I try and use the Google Play store or Netflix when I'm abroad: "This service is not available in your region".

Why should it matter where I'm physically standing? (Or where they *think* I'm standing if I use a VPN...)

Why should it be difficult to bring a device for Americans over to the UK? Just chuck them on a boat FFS!

It looks to me as if they will be using Jelly Bean; I mean look at where the notification bar is.

The 7" is coming here - I suspect production capacity might be the reason for the 8.9" version??!!
