Re: News - ASUS Windows 8 tablet prices hard to swallow?

Yes, they are hard to swallow, especially when a very nice Android tablet from Lenovo with Micro SD and HDMI costs 300 euro. So far, Nexus 7 has been my favourite tablet to go for, but I was reluctant because it doesn't sport any ports for SD or flash drives, however, these new Lenovo IdeaPads are gamechangers for me. I think I'm going to finally succumb and buy a tablet... maybe.

I'm kinda glad these devices are rumoured to be so expensive, it may stop me hyperventilating at the price I paid for my iPad (Not a big fan of Apple, but I have to admit my purchase was totally worth it).

Re: News - ASUS Windows 8 tablet prices hard to swallow?

Much more expensive than I expected for the RT tablets - but about right for the "real" version.

As I have just posted in another thread, I would expect to see price scaling like this..but not from that high a base!

I would have expected that you would see:

Windows RT "standard" tablet - approx £300 + £100 for a keyboard dock (though you don't really need one with RT..its pure tablet ala Android/iOS)
Windows "Atom" tablets - approx £500-£600 + £100 for a dock - these would compete more with the iPad, offering a "real" OS and much more flexibility than the competition at this level
Windows "full" tablets/ultrabooks - around £1000 including the dock - these are really just ultrabooks with a touchscreen, and are the best option - but don't compete with tablets (hence can be priced at this level).

$500 for an RT tablet is just insane - especially from a budget manufacturer like Asus!

Re: News - ASUS Windows 8 tablet prices hard to swallow?

I still like the idea of a W8 tablet, but if the price is too high, I think I'll just get an ASUS Transformer or similar instead. With Office coming to Android I suspect I'll be able to do everything I actually need from a portable right there. No need for Windows at all.
