About time there are smaller variations - phones are getting far too big to be comfortable to hold - sometimes you just need to write on the screen one handed!
However, if they really are putting in a lesser camera/processor in, I have one gripe with the whole bigger=better spec. It doesn't increase choice - it just constrains it to those who can compromise on features.
If the iphone can sell so many at the 'lesser' size (note I'm no iphone fan), there is a market for it!
What I would like to see are manufacturers putting out phones with identical feature sets, but at different sizes. Anyone with me?
interested! 4inch screen is about the sweet spot imo, shame if the specs are reduced though.
100% agree. I prefer a phone with no more than a 4" screen size. It just gets too clunky to handle with ease. I personally don't see the need for the larger screen, how far do people hold it away!?
So this actually looks quite appealing, I was game for a 920 but it's even bigger than my HD7 (4.5" vs 4.3") which is way too big already. If it didn't have the chipping issue, I'd probably be after an iPhone 5, simply because it's the best for it's size.
I certainly am, bigger isnt necissarily better. I dont mind the size of my One X too much but at the same time, i would like something smaller.
There is definitely a hole in the android market for something small yet still just as powerful as their bigger brothers.
I suppose the other issue you get is less space for battery capacity![]()
I think there should be a range of sizes, because I have size 13 feet, and *ahem* yes, large hands. They also should make lady ones, obviously coloured only pink. With flowers. And hello kitty.
I would suggest thou that you look at the 820 if you where looking at the 920, its a great value phone. I hate spending much money on phones, I dunno why, looks at 2 tablets, kindle, 3 laptops + desktop, + 2 printers in study. I just can't see the rational for expensive phones!
The iPhone 5 one I find strange, its res is just awkward for vids, and after finally getting to play with one, I didn't like the balance in landscape for games, obviously YMMV.

imo smart phones this generation needs to have a screen around 4.5inchs. surfing the net on a small screen just creates constant zooming / things harder to see. Iphone 5 screen is too small.
I had a chance to play with the 920 at the designjunction recently - it felt fantastic, and I could barely stop myself stroking the sides of the screen. It is a smidgen on the large side, and it would have been perfect if it was at the 820's size. Fortunately there aren't too many differences between those two phones, apart from the design (in which I do prefer the 920), with the 820 having a slightly lesser camera and screen, but the compromises aren't too big.
The 820 I still be considered big though at 4.3", especially when looking at one of the staff's Lumia 800 to contrast against.
I do consider it a tad strange that currently Nokia appear unable to organise a celebration in a building that makes beverages...
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
I have a Galaxy Note, and at 5.3" it's not exactly the hugest thing out there. I mean really. Does everyone really have such a problem that they cannpot hold a skinny thing that is as long a a biro , as wide as a finger is long and as thin as a postit note pad.
Even when I used my HTC Desire, I held it with one hand and typed with the other. No diff with the Note. As screen that size is an utter joy to use. Text (messages, email, internet), picutes, vids and games all shine with the increased size. I for one find the larger sized phones a fabulous option. It's just a shame I got my note beforethe Note 2 came out. 5.5" is awesome!!
4" is barely acceptable.
Oddly enough, if you had given me the S3, I would have said "too big". With the 920, the first thought that occurred was "this feels good". So perhaps, the design of the curved edges does help with the perception. The thickness of the phone may perhaps contribute - the S3 felt thinner, so proportionally it didn't sit in the hand's grip as naturally.
Interestingly, the Nokia lady remarked on her observation about other people's comments "It feels heavy" "It feels too thick". They speculated that as those attendees had played with the iPhone 5 beforehand (with that phone going on a diet becoming thinner and lighter), every other phone just feels bigger to them by comparison. Attendants at other events were not making those comments before the iphone 5 was out.
Everyone has different needs right? Some friends are loving their Notes (heck it was a surprise big seller), but there are others who don't want to carry what looks like a mini-tablet with them. There's a proven market for all sizes. Some people are happy to carry around their iPads around and use it to take pictures of everything.
The problem is in lack of choice without compromises.
ya its very nice news but i think many people buy iphone if they have the budget for buy............
