Is anyone that bothered, does anyone other than hard core techies and gamers care about this...

    Simply put 'NO'

Is this a nail in the coffin for Nintendo - are we seeing the Nokia story all over again.

Re: News - Nintendo Wii U to sell at a loss, desperately needs sales

It's not uncommon for consoles to sell at a loss, at least initially; both the PS3 and Xbox 360 did until die shrinks, dropping legacy support, and component consolidation meant they could lower production costs. A good chunk of the game sales help to make money initially though.

Not sure about the Wii though, it entered the market priced close to the others, despite costing significantly less to make, so they probably made a fair profit on it...

The Nintendo "Wii U" is the dumbest move Nintendo ever made.
They made something that that cannot be compared with anything else because it's the same like everything else, they gamed to make more money and stupidly let the buyers know that they were only in for the money.

Not a big fan of Nintendo this days and my opinions keeps going down on them more and more every time.

    Sorry... but WHAT??!!!

Personally, I'm not sure about this dual-screen thing... but then again the proof of the pudding as they say. Doubt I'll ever buy one though.

People complained about the Wii too and it did much better than anyone suspected. TBH,I would give the Wii U a chance before declaring it a failure!!

    Once bitten, twice shy though.

I knew a ton of people that bought Wiis, the majority of which had never owned a console before. The vast majority of them turned into dust collectors pretty rapidly......doubt many people with a dusty Wii will buy a Wii-U.

For the "once in a while after a few drinks" crowd, I cannot see Wii-U selling much, yet IMO, it was that crowd that made Wii sell so many units.

The problem is that everyone said the Wii would fail - so until it has been out for around two years at least,I am not going to pass judgement. The Wii also had very good sales for a good part of its lifespan even though it had really outdated hardware and only this year has it really slumped. Even the Gamecube was not that far behind the XBox in sales too over its lifespan, and even that is attributable to its lack of DVD playback. The Wii U and Gamecube in total have had more sales than the XBox and XBox 360 in total.

People went on saying how the PS3 was a failure too,but in the end it has nearly caught up with XBox 360 sales, despite being released a year later. So even a slow start means nothing when it comes to consoles, because of their very long lifespans.

Re: News - Nintendo Wii U to sell at a loss, desperately needs sales

Really not sure about this one. They do need some killer titles, but not the usual Modern Warfare/Battlefield, something for kids and adults that justifies the extra screens existence and convinces people to move away from their existing Wii or xbox 360 for family gaming.

I'm really not sure though, there just doesn't seem to be the same hype as for the Wii. Maybe the price, even at £250 for the basic setup, is still too high?

I haven't touched my Wii for about 2 years now... they need to get away from the gimmicks and produce solid gaming consoles backed by solid titles, just like the SNES.
