Given I still have vista on my old laptop (I know, I know), how much worse can it be?
Short answer :- No
Long answer :- No, I have no reason to upgrade. I find Win7 more then acceptable for what I need it for. With that being said, I'd still be on WinXP if I didn't win a free copy of 7 from work.
NO. I upgrade my PC every year and last thing I would need is Windows 8 tied to my Motherboard etc. Besides, OEM is not out yet AFAIK. Also, I can use Windows 7 any version without any hack, simply by reinstalling it every 30 days or so. That way all my trials are renewed so.. No way I am upgrading. I am upgrading PC alright![]()
Not until I don't need a 3rd party app to make the UI usable.

Start8??![]()
Similar to Caveman:
I was intending to put my new build onto win8 (been trying the preview on it for the past couple of months) but in the absence of any introductory/preorder offers for the system builder version, I'm not sure I can be bothered (Win7 Ultimate would cost me less than Win8 pro - and in the short term, I'd probably be happier that way - upgrade can wait until a later date). Without (what will be) my main PC running Win8 - and in the absence of a Win8 tablet (for now at least - pricing has put me off getting the surface, though I'm still awaiting judgement on the pro), there seems little point in upgrading the other laptops/PCs in the house for now, as the 'compatibility' argument is no longer relevant. Right now I may conceivably end up hanging on to Win7 until Win9 arrives.
I have gone already![]()
I'm already running it on my desktop and HTPC at home, and my work desktop and laptop and to be honest I'm finding it to be pretty good, but then I already have a Hotmail/Microsoft account, Xbox and Dell Venue Pro running Windows Phone 7.5 so everything ties in nicely.
It's very responsive and it only takes a little while to get used to the start screen and Windows 8 UI system, just wish I had a touchscreen device to try it on as well. Waiting for the Surface Pros so I can buy one through work for testing lol.
Best conclusion I can give is that it will probably do well for domestic use, as the entire OS is aimed at the domestic and social use, but I think it will struggle in businesses.
I'll be the only person at work running for the time being as we have no plans to upgrade our domain from Windows 7 to Windows 8, way to much hassle to re-train people who, at times, struggle with Windows 7 and an interface that hasn't changed for years!

Since I've been using it at work I have come to like windows 8 and I'll most likely make the jump to windows 8 on my PC when I have my 2 SSD's to run the OS and any main applications/ games on them. Although however I'm still waiting for surface pro to come out to see whether that may be more beneficial of me using that over a standard surface in terms of work and support/productivity.![]()
I have been running it for the last month using the 3 month Windows 8 RTM preview on another system, and have had no issues with the add-on. A mate has been using the consumer preview with it for a while. So far it seems to be quite stable. Download the 3 month RTM preview and give it a try -it even bypasses the Start screen.
My main machine will still have Windows 7,but another machine I am hoping to upgrade to Windows 8, if I can install an old XP copy I have. It would save me £40 to £50 over Windows 8.
Alternatively I might just use Linux Mint instead. I am undecided ATM.
I upgraded about a month and a half ago, got a free copy through uni and DreamSpark.
So far I'm actually enjoying the new interface; once you spend a while working out where a few features went, and a bit of time with the new keyboard shortcuts, it's bearable.
I'd actually say I prefer 8 to 7 now, I work faster than I did before.
However, I'm not keen on the implications of the app store being so strict; but only time will tell just how much of an impact that will have.
Upgrade? ... no, though i may buy a retail copy of 8 Pro in the future and dual boot alongside 7.
