Great! That means my mum's behemoth now has some rarity value!
Who buys typewriters now? I'll give you one example. Most shipping offices still require one for filling out despatch forms and release notes, when a low volume customer insists on a special proprietary format. There are plenty of cases like this where it isn't worth fully automating production of shipping documentation.
It was about time, 1985 o man!
Sad day. I work in computing but my first job was a typewriter mech with Olivetti more years ago than I care to remember (I'm 59). I remember seeing the first PC's appearing and the gradual demise of all those firms like Olivetti, DEC, Bull, etc with the change from Mainframes to smaller Unix boxes and PC servers.
Reminisce over
Same...
I thought the most primitive it got these days was a dot-matrix printer attached to a PC... Seriously, what is there that actually can't be done with a special printer attached to the regular PC/network everyone has anyway? Dispatch notes etc can just be printed with careful formatting/forms etc
I suppose the secret typing of memos on a non-connected machine with no memory angle could have some legs... perhaps you need to fight the Cylons by going offline with it all...
Does that mean these are still made in other countries outside the UK ?
