What's the resolution of the screen? I'd get a desktop LCD when I can find one (at a reasonable price) that matches my laptop's 1600x1200.

It's farcical that standalone panel manufacturers haven't increased the resolution on sub-20" displays. Even most 19" panels are hindered by a maximum 1280x1024 resolution, yet laptops, and NEC in particular, have 2048x1536 displays on 15" screens.

    This one's a 1280x1024, I believe.

yeh.. my Samsung 181T is 1280 x 1024. TFT's are just so much nicer than CRT's. much sharper, clearer image. And they look so much better. this is why many companies have started using them as they look nicer and more professional on a desk.

Caged: yet we can have them in laptops? Bizarre. I do quite a bit of dtp and for-print graphics work and I'd love a higher resolution panel. It doesn't necessarily have to be bigger but should have far higher dpi. The difference in sharpness and general appearence between a printed page and how it appears on screen is huge and that's mostly due to the limited dpi of the screen.

Yeah, analogue version. Having tried out a DVI panel yesterday for the first time, in terms of picture quality and setting it up, you do spend longer manual tuning with an analogue panel, to get the picture perfect, but once you get it right, it's spot on.

I wouldn't say it's any worse than a DVI version, just it takes a little longer to get the picture perfect.

Look out for the review soon, this coming weekend hopefully.

I would have to disagree with the sharper clearer image bit. My 21" eizo has a .22 dot pitch, and runs multi resoultions (max 2048*1536@85hz). It also handles all possible colours, rather than the limited 16 or 24 bit colour depth that tft's can handle.

Ok they might look pretty on the desk, but unless viewed dead centre on then they look complete pants. Sorry, I'll stick to real screens.
I am trying to see it your way, but I can't get my head up my arse
