Heh, may aswell be "name the most expensive thing you justify to yourself this year"
Surface RT for me, surprised me as I was a bit tentative, adopting it so early. I use it a lot everyday.
Nexus 7 (seconded)
AMD Radeon HD7970
A week ago I would have said the GTX680, but now I am going with the Corsair H100i. It will last much longer than the 680 and the improvements over the H100 are huge. This is the best of the products that I have bought and tested that released this year.
It has to the Nexus7 for me, it's just brilliant.
Don't buy that many things, but for me it's the raspberry pi.
Not got any time to do what I want with it, so it's just got xbmc stuck on it at the mo, but it has the power to change how people learn about computers.
I'm still quite excited about it.

Surface was a suprise
Canon EOS 1Dx
I vote the Raspberry Pi, it showed us how cheap and compact we can make PCs, the Pi is nothing without the customers integrating it into some funky little projects, from mini game systems to overclocked NAS devices.
I would have to say that the video cards that came out are kinda epic.
Corsair's updated lineup of PSUs and coolers
