Re: News - Yeah, but can it run Crysis 3?
7970 is actually on par or faster than a 680 on most games with 12.11 drivers. Of course, there remain some games which prefer Nvidia cards, but BF3 which was a major win for them now runs better on AMD cards.
I'd also be inclined to say Crysis would likely be optimised better for Nvidia but I've just checked a few Crysis/Warhead/2 reviews, the first two seem to prefer the 7970 with extreme settings, while Crysis 2 Ultra marginally preferred the 680 prior to 12.11 but the opposite seems to be true now, but there really isn't much in it from what I can see.
I can't find any games which run faster on 670.
Re: News - Yeah, but can it run Crysis 3?
Think I'll need a new build for this to run nicely (sometime next year), I haven't even got round to installing Crysis 2 shamelessly purchased in steam sale. Crysis ran ok on my 460 though, warhead was better.
Re: News - Yeah, but can it run Crysis 3?
I didn't bother with the 680 - the 670 FTW was so darn close at stock and on water i've got plenty of headroom in them too.
Personally I prefer nvidia for the driver side (they've made good gains in recent drivers too) and I have been impressed with some of the more recent phsyx driver stuff (Borderlands 2 has great effects with it switched on) as well as SLI. Depends what you play etc etc. I've no interest in older games generally and zero interest in BF3 etc. Crysis 2 modded up runs really well with SLI though..
No denying the 7970 is very well thought of though and i've not been on the AMD side for a while now (aside from my integrated system).

Speaking of which, I'm actually in two minds - GTX670 or HD7970? I've been a NVidia fan up to now, but I'm getting the strong impression from the comments here that maybe AMD is worth looking at these days (it's an AMD board I've got). I'll have to check the benchmarks and reviews...
I had a 3gb 7970 for a bit (I've pretty much always used amd cards for all the years I've been doing this). I sold it and bought a GTX 670 (windforce x3 oc), and man, this 670 beats that 7970 I had by miles! To be fair though, amd were only on the second or third set of drivers for the 7970 at the time when I had it, so there's no doubt it's improved by now. Head over to toms hardware or anandtech and checkout some benchmark comparisons ;)
Re: News - Yeah, but can it run Crysis 3?
Got hold of the MP demo about a month ago. Running it on high(50fps) with an i5 2500K 3.2ghz proc. 560ti (2GB) 8GB 1600Mhz Corsair Vengence. Running it on max drags me down to 15-12fps so i cant quite run it at max. If you can run this on an Xbox, why they cant get this to run on a 4-5 year old pc beats me...

I don't think it will be running at Max PC settings on an Xbox.

Ha yeh exactly :P
The first Crysis on very high just looks like a standard, reasonably good looking game of todays pc standards.
I mean, I was playing Far Cry 3 with highest settings and it barely had anything on Crysis tbh. I know it's not made on the cry engine, but still.
Considering this I would say that the consoles are probably running it on around medium settings. Obviously some kind of hybrid finely tuned setting though for the exact setup. That's the beauty of console games. They can produce much better games for the hardware they're using in comparison to an equal pc. Anyway, lets not start that old debate :P
Re: News - Yeah, but can it run Crysis 3?
Crysis with mods is still a very pretty game, and the other fact is that it had a reasonably large map too.

Yeh I'm sure it is with mods. Thing I don't get though is how anyone can run it with visual mods? I can't run the stock game on very high with my current setup! Well, not at 60fps anyway.

Another thing is that under DX9,the settings were gimped on purpose,to make DX10 look better. Running under DX10 only really added motion blur but reduced performance quite a bit.
You can go into the settings files and increase the settings manually. People did this under DX9 and the game looked fantastic.

Oh yeh, I do recall something like this happening now you mention it!
Do you know if it's worth running thje 64 bit version, or is the 32 bit version better?
Re: News - Yeah, but can it run Crysis 3?
shame mine is just below the hi-performance spec :'(
Re: News - Yeah, but can it run Crysis 3?
Should run on my 5 year old rig :P
Do need an upgrade to get the higher settings though, great excuse :)
