Re: News - Nokia sells off HQ to raise €170 million

Wow they lost 1.05 BILLION in a year :O Whilst having the best year they have had for awhile, sheesh no wonder they are panicking.

Remember many years ago when Mobiles/Cellphones were just coming on the market? Nokia's were the best phones you could get and nearly everyone that worked for a company was given a Nokia. I bet they hate the fact they let things slide so far.

Just a question to readers, what's the downside of leasing out their grounds(there is always a negative)? Could this come back and bite them in the toosh later on or..?

I've seen it discussed that Nokia's slide is the biggest mis management of recent years, from being no. 1 by a long way to being nowhere in real terms

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Nokia's days are numbered....

€170 million does not make a dent in their problems..

There is a rumour that Nokia are now looking to Android. They are advertising jobs for linux programmers. Although could be unrelated to Android.

I agree 100% and have been saying it for years. Microsoft if they have any brains will buy them, however that would be such an unloved move

If they do look at Android buying now could be the smartest move ever made. Who's going first?

Or even a Nexus N? N for Nokia

Samsung and Asus managed it..all Nokia has to do is make a 5" rectangular shaped device and Boom they can sell a few million with the way new devices are being swept up, specially the Nexus goodies.

They might end up doing that after their chief executive saboteur at Nokia has done his job gutting the company.

    But look at say HTC.

HTC has struggled, quite publically with andriod. The Desire I thought was an OK device, until I used one for a long time. The Desire HD didn't fix the software issues.

HTC two years ago people thought where doing well, but they where let down by their sense UI.

The thing is people who have no experiance making such bits of software or desiging hardware wade in saying "oh its easy" or "oh its crap management". It is really hard to get a project like those completed. With MS they have a tested finished end to end OS. With Andriod its very much some assembly required. Now Whilst Samsung has done very well with this, HTC have not.

So the real reason I say look at HTC, is if HTC have made such a mess, would Nokia manage? I think not. The more I learn about Meego their management, their developed products the QT plan as well, the more I think no. Nokia needed someone outside to lead their software.

This will go into mapping if they're smart, they could wipe the floor if they deploy the LIDAR based maps well.

Everyone I know has had a Nokia. It would be a shame to see them disappear. But I think they cannot compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung in the smartphone market.
