It would be good to see if HP moves from AMD for their Microserver (that is dirt cheap after the rebate).

Nice but I would have thought 8 PCI-E 2.0 lanes would be a bit restrictive for a "server class soc"
I guess it's blade/microserver territory only :(

Why? That Athlon is considerably faster than current Atom, and Atom is probably no cheaper.

According to CD it's just a rebranded Clovertrail which would explain that: https://semiaccurate.com/2012/12/11/...e-server-atom/

Might make a good home server CPU as well?
Re: News - Intel announces 64-bit Atom S1200 SoC for microservers
Remember the CPU core itself is still based on Bonnell, some sources disagree on what exactly it is i.e. new silicon or re-badged Clovertrail (mobile SoC), but besides ECC it doesn't really offer much extra, functionality wise. The SoC design should help somewhat with power consumption and density though. Still, I can't help being cynical and thinking this is just a way to sell off a stockpile of silicon with a TDP too high for mobile use, if CD is right about it being the same thing.
Current Atom platforms are already used in NAS devices so it's quite possible these could end up in that market, provided there isn't a massive premium to pay for the Xeon brand that is...
