Still wondering why we need 1080p 5" displays when we can't resolve individual pixels beyond 720p on a 5" display at normal phone viewing distances. All it's going to do is use more power to drive those additional pixels...

I'm trying to figure out why they need so many flowers on the podium! It looks like a funeral for a smartphone.

Exactly TA, this is all well and good but what about the battery! Specs seem almost identical to the Oppo Find 5 which looks set to be pretty good, the main difference being that the find 5 is slightly thicker and has a 2500mAh battery.

I swear to god I would rather have a phone that is <1.5CM thick and has a nice 4000mAh battery than the stupidly thin phones we have now, I enjoy my N4 but i wouldnt be phased if it was thicker... although with a good kernel I have now managed to get over a days use .

Battery life is the reason I don't have a smart phone, my Nokia C3 can last 800hours on standby and manages 9hours of talk-time; I'm not giving that up to access the internet.

Which is only really useful if your stranded on a mountain top or something.
Smartphone battery life is only bad if you use and abuse all of the other connectivity options such as wifi, data and gps. The biggest killer is usually the screen though so gaming and watching movies will obviously kill it. If those options are used moderatly, any modern smartphone can last long too.

Actually, your eyes CAN detect details an order of magnitude smaller than those assumed in current 'retina' displays. It's known as vernier(or hyper)-acuity; our eyes are very, very good at resolving aliasing. It's why Vernier callipers work, for example.

    2mm away from pure Magic!

as pointed out >300dpi screens are a pure waste. Every pixel requires energy (cpu/gpu cycles + physically by the screen tech). Only advantage I came across so far is FullHD mirroring.

Re: News - ZTE Grand S Android smartphone is less than 7mm thick

I slapped a 4200mAh battery into my S3. The fact that it's possible (albeit unofficially) is the best aspect about the phone for me. It made the phone a tad thicker, but since I pretty much need both hands to comfortable use it in the first place, it makes no big difference for me (still fits in my pockets fine). That said there is quite a bit of wasted space: the battery is thicker, but I reckon that they could theoretically make it thicker and longer at the top so that it fills more space and squeeze more power. That would probably make a 6000+ mAh possible without making the phone even thicker (but obviously heavier).

4200mAh is probably more than enough for most people but only *just* enough to run My Tracks for 12-15 hours (long day's hike) with regular Google Maps use. I can't expect much more, but I could definitely use it.

I'd be quite curious as to which line would sell more if a company was to make a "Super thin" line and an "Extended battery" line of the same phone. It's quite obvious which would be more popular amongst Hexites, but how about everyone else.

Motorola did it with their RAZR phone, the extended battery version was called "MAXX". I would like to think it was very popular but being restricted to Verizon makes it unlikely for us to ever find out.
