No DP, no sale. Desktop displays will start properly busting through 1920x1080 this year and i'd like to be able to use one.

Don't see what the issue is. HDMI can handle upto 4096x2160,
An Atlantean Triumvirate, Ghosts of the Past, The Centre Cannot Hold
The Pillars of Britain, Foundations of the Reich, Cracks in the Pillars.

My books are available here for Amazon Kindle. Feedback always welcome!

In theory, but find me a monitor that takes resolutions over 1920x1080 over HDMI. Or an intel CPU for that matter. I've got a Dell 30" - it takes 2560x1600 over DP or DVI but not HDMI ... my ivybridge will output 2560x1600 over DP only ... here's hoping haswell will fix that.

I like this and the Intel NUC concept. Ideal as a home server (just add NAS), as an HTPC (as long as HD4000 graphics as a minimum) or low cost business desktop pc.

Crucial issue for me would be what, if any noise does it make

I've had 2560x1440 27" for about 18 months and I was hardly an early adopter. Sure it cost £500 but still... I think you mean "busting through into lower price segments".

Dunno why you think that, but I hope you're right because for ages the leap in price from even a high quality 1080p monitor to a basic model larger one is unreasonable.

It would be nice with dual Thunderbolt ports for 4k TV via Intel Collage.

Not at PC refresh rates, remember films are generally ~24Hz, PC monitors are 60Hz or increasingly 120Hz i.e. up to 5 times the bandwidth for the same resolution. You can't do 1920x1080@120Hz over HDMI for example.

HDMI is essentially single-link DVI, there's nothing magical about an adapter that will increase bandwidth. Higher resolutions/refresh rates require DP or dual-link DVI.

How low power? My MSI Windbox DC100 uses 9W idle and is easily capable of doing everything that I throw at it.

I imagine this little box of tricks would make a great home theatre PC. Who knows? It may be able to run some half good games too!

    Well done again Gigabyte!

But you can just use an HDMI to DVI adaptor no?
I agree it is surprising that DP hasn't caught on more given that HDMI needs licensing fees ie higher costs whereas DP doesn't.
