Ass for me, that's one of cellphones with grate design.
All smartphone and tablet manufacturers should do this.
Smart move by Nokia - especially if they're now going to target the fashionable "in crowd". That's one thing where the iPhone's have a big advantage - in the amount of these kind of styling tweaks available from 3rd parties. Nice to see though that other phones (especially the S3) are also getting some attention in this area.
Interesting line of thought - that other's can become Nokia OEM's. And presumably since these would be Lumia style phones that'd mean they'd be running Windows Mobile, which would definitely please Microsoft.Furthermore Nokia may even release modular phones in the future “In the future, I envision wildly more modular and customizable phones. Perhaps in addition to our own beautifully-designed phones, we could sell some kind of phone template, and entrepreneurs the world over could build a local business on building phones precisely tailored to the needs of his or her local community. You want a waterproof, glow-in-the-dark phone with a bottle-opener and a solar charger? Someone can build it for you—or you can print it yourself!”
Sign me up for one with a large screen, decent camera, wireless charging and removable battery and an uSD slot please.
Thats the thing, for the 3rd party customisation market Add-on, the formula must be something like
Total Cost = RnD Cost - (MarketShare * MarginOfAddOn)
So if they lower the RnD cost, they can make it more attractive for the device. More and more I think firms are realising that a good way to advertise is by being visibile everywhere. I've a bluetooth travel speaker, it was heavily marketed as being for iPhones despite the fact any bluetooth device, can use it, I mostly use it with my laptop for films.
