As long as Dell continues to make their enjoyable high end monitors I don't mind who buys them :)

As part of the deal “Dell would agree to use Microsoft's Windows software to power the vast majority of its devices” said on the WSJ’s sources.
Isn't that already the case? After all, I don't see Dell shipping a lot of netbook/notebook/desktops with Linux, so the only non-Windows gear is really the server line. And I can't see even a Microsoft-supporting Dell turning away a customer who wants to run Red Hat - especially as Microsoft themselves seem to be less anti-Linux at the moment.
Quite like Dell gear myself - especially the laptops.

Agreed I was waiting for some Ultrasharp 2013 24" models but I sense I may have to get the 2010 model afterall or at worst have a go with iiyamas 1920x1200 offerings.

Really gone off Dell recently. Never liked their custom cases etc but always very well built so I recommended them for non-IT friends/family who wont' upgrade. However recently I got my dad a cheap i5 inspiron desktop and its built really badly (cheap ultra thin metal case). It rattles and hums almost constantly and needs a large weight on top to shut it up. They really need to watch quality to keep market share.

Its not just the home systems that are shoddy. Where I work they use Latitude Laptops and they really are not worth the money Dell ask for them.

Their business support is decent though which explains why we use them.
Re: News - Microsoft participates in Dell buyout talks
According to PCPro, they're buying a £3bn stake, not doing a complete takeover.
Re: News - Microsoft participates in Dell buyout talks
Thier PC sales have been declining... maybe because of the stuff they use inside their PCs! No sane person buys a Dell desktop!
