Unlocked/unbranded Nokia Lumia 710 - no updates available via Zune as yet for me.
Just updated my Samsung Omnia 7. No background Skype and no tethering; the only new features I actually wanted.
Wow Great news.
Thank you for sharing
So
Any sign of a solution for people using integrated MSN messenger, for when MSN gets shut down, if they can't run Skype (e.g. 610/510 users)?
The 620 doesn't actually seem that badly priced, I can see it being quite popular.
I'd heard a roumer that background skype was coming.
Alas its a now show on my Omnia 7 and Lumia 800.
Currently in the process of updating, what OS version will I end up on? Currently on 7.10.8858.136, having already installed 4 updates, wondering how much longer it will take :P
This is on my HTC Trophy :)
I just installed it on my Lumia 800.
I wasn't too bothered about the updated tiles but now that I have them I really like it. Makes the home screen much more usable. The additional colours are ok I suppose.
Most of the functionality I was concerned with was already supplied by Nokia anyway such as the new camera features etc.
All in all a decent refresh, can't complain.
What will be interesting, which surprisingly few of the press sites are talking about (I think due to the fact its all SEO and copy each other now) is what will happen in Apollo Plus.
Microsoft are expected to outline the new update at MWC, end of Feb. This is where the notification center will be announced, I'm interested to see what their take is from a design point of view, and also an implementation point of view. A lot of the programming model for WP is really elegant.
The question is, will they back-port that notification center stuff to WP7.x?
The other thing is the VPN stuff, but tbh I don't care about that so know nothing about it! However I really do find a notification center would be useful.
No updates here... Nokia 800 on Orange. :(
Also got the update for my 920.

Does anyone develop apps for Windows Phones?
http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57...50k-plus-apps/
So yes, there are a few. Speaking as a dev myself, I think MS benefit from having the best tooling in by a wide margin. This makes it cheaper to make quality apps, so a fair few devs have blatently ripped off the concept of sucsesful apps on other platforms, and brought them over. MS also claim to have 46 of the top 50 on both iOS and Andriod.
However, it still suffers, like andriod, from having some of the great apps that haven't made it over, such as SkyDemon which is neiche, but for me, why I still own an iPad.
Also when you consider that its only about 600k iPhone apps, excluding the iPad ones (which get counted to bump numbers) the Windows Phone store is missing about 1/4 of the apple ones. But when you realise that a lot of those in the iOS store are trail versions, where as windows phone has a built in system for "try" and "buy", its probably only about 1/3rd. The question of the quality of a lot of the apps means, does it really matter?
I think we are at a stage where each platform has a couple of slightly neiche stand out apps.
