And anyone who has read about the implementation in the Pureview will know that the extra pixels are used for pixel binning to reduce noise.

The actual sensor is far, far larger than normal in a phone.

and results in a much larger, thicker phone...pros and cons of course!

Oh no! My phone is 14*mm thick, however will it fit in my pocket?!....o wait, it fits fine.

To be fair I do like my S2, very comfy in the pocket. However I'd happily compromise for a phone with a high quality sensor and good low light ability.

Lumia 920 camera is already amazing, in low light and normal photos, ive taken some very professional looking photos since i got it

Well I'd like a better sensor, but it appears most people want razor thin phones...what are the manufacturers to do?

Nokia didn't simply brandish a high number on their device, they designed it properly. Perhaps you should read a review about the hardware you comment on.

If you're a photo nut probably worth it. I wouldn't bother, can't even take a decent shot multi-hundred quid cameras!

Hmm, *I* would trade thickness for more battery capacity, but *maybe* not for a larger sensor. It kind of depends how much thickness having *both* adds (if I end up using the camera more because it is good, I'll need the battery life to go with it). At the end of the day, I need the phone to fit into my pocket together with an iPod Touch (unless it's an iPhone), so that's another couple of millimetre. That, and I am quite comfortable carrying my DSLR. But for those who can't be bothered, I can entirely see the appeal of this phone. That said, I wonder about the ergonomic: no matter how big the sensor, you will still need a fairly steady hold to get good result in low light, and ergonomics does help. I've seen an increasing number of people using their tablet as a camera. I wonder how steady they can hold.

Clearly you've not seen any reviews of the Nokia 808. The general reaction from professional photographers and reviewers was amazement. This is not a gimmick product...

Unless it's a license/cross-license arrangement? We could see an EOS phone, followed by an EOS camera utilising the pureview sensor coupled with Canon's camera known-how...?

Nokia do have some very lever software wrapped up in their PureView technology. They have said that PureView is a collection of technologies, not just the large sensor and over sampling. So I guess it could be pretty cool to have some of that in Canons DIGIC 6 image processors in their SLRs.

I guess we'll see what happens at some point.
