Oh how wonderous. I will now save 50 pounds on the 700 quid I am paying for nothing other than "cos it's apple".

The base model at £1,799 now features a 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 chip (up from 2.4GHz)...
Didn't realise there was a difference between 2.4GHz and 2.4GHz...

No I won't be buying an Apple laptop.
Re: News - Retina equipped Apple MacBook Pros get faster, cheaper
That's pretty good, the 13" now comes in £500 (25%) cheaper than the Sony VAIO equivalent.
It doesn't have the Blu-Ray writer the Sony has, but the Sony has a 1600x900 display Vs the 2560x1600 Retina
Re: News - Retina equipped Apple MacBook Pros get faster, cheaper
At least the Sony will have basic connectivity such as Ethernet though
It is a shame that there isn't more high res laptops coming out from other companies for a better direct comparison.
Re: News - Retina equipped Apple MacBook Pros get faster, cheaper
This is just the beginning of the price cuts. The macbook range has been behind the competition in terms of screen resolution for years, until now of course. Apple's fixation with simply doubling resolutions means the only way they'll catch up is to push all their macbooks to "retina", not that it's a secret or anything. They know this needs to be done fairly quickly and there's no way they could get away with pushing all the MBP prices up so by next year I'd bet that even the entry models will be retina for the same price. As much as Apple likes to charge extortionate prices, their design choices and the need to keep up with the competition should result in more reasonable prices in the future.
I like to think that Cook has his head screwed on a bit better but maybe they'll always continue as the Jobs cult
Re: News - Retina equipped Apple MacBook Pros get faster, cheaper

Well that's comparing Caviar and Moet, 2 over expensive things known to be poor value for money!
Re: News - Retina equipped Apple MacBook Pros get faster, cheaper
Last time I checked, the Vaio was the only 13" laptop that came with a 1920*1080 panel option, so it's not that strange a comparison.
Re: News - Retina equipped Apple MacBook Pros get faster, cheaper
This is still a complete rip off though isn't it. I mean really, £1000 and all you are doing is paying for screen real estate. I would go to say that the majority of people buying these, and I have no problem with those Apple users that do use them for photography and editing purposes, would not know the difference between these and a high end ultrabook. The only difference being that this has a lovely piece of fruit on the front and is running MAC OSX which is a quadrillion times faster than Windows (i don't believe this, what fanboys will tell you).
At the end of the day I can run applications as fast on my Toshiba Satelite R710 with an SSD. People need to see past the brushed aluminum and fashion appeal and start to see how much they are paying. Short sightedness costs a fortune, no wonder they are the only company making huge profits from hardware. The majority have no idea what they are buying.
Re: News - Retina equipped Apple MacBook Pros get faster, cheaper
So, if you compare a price of a pimped-up 'old' macbook 15" with the retina version the newer one actually comes cheaper! That's kind of stupid...

To be fair to Apple, the screen on these MacBooks is little short of stunning. I wish more 'laptop' manufacturers would realise the importance of a quality screen - some of us *are* prepared to cough up the extra for it, regardless of whose logo is on it.

In total agreement with AlexKitch, I have had my Nexus 10 for about 2 months, and I am still amazed at the screen. My Laptop, 1920*1080, is such a disappointment compared to it.
I would love a laptop with a great screen.
